Sunday Morning

Man has it been a week around here.  Too much smashed into short time spans.

On Wednesday, we said good-bye to Col R. Townes, commander of the the 29th INF REG and welcomed Col G. Kane.  Not only was Col Townes leaving, but the 29th was re-flagged to the 197th.  There is a long story behind it all, but I don’t want to go into it.  The night before the Change of Command (COC), we attended the Townes’ going-away party at the Officers’ Club.  (The food was awful and I ended up eating only green-beans and german chocolate cake.)  An active-duty friend of ours that lives an hour away was going to stay on the 1SG’s couch but we poo pooed the idea and in the spur of the moment she came to stay with us instead.  So we had company then had to be up at 5 am the next morning to be at the parade field at 7:30am, with the COC starting at 8am.  By this time I was hitting exhaustion stage.  (I guess in my old age, I don’t react to sudden changes in my schedule easily anymore.) I went to work at noon, then back to Fort Benning for the welcome party for Col Kane.  Col Townes is going to take the position at The Citadel as Professor of Military Science.   He graduated from there and in August of this year his oldest son will start.

Captain Ed, as has many others, reports on a news service being used by Google that clearly needs to try and hide its leftist leanings better.   I think a more appropriate lead would be “Liberal’s start to hemmorage from all orifices as Dick Cheney steps into the Oval Office as Commander in Chief“.

Do you got Harry I got mine yesterday afternoon.  I’m too old to stay up until midnight and stand in line with a bunch of kids (who love to read mind you), for a book.  The lady checking out my purchase at our local Barnes & Nobles said the crowd was very  large.  We wondered how many kids went to bed reading Harry and woke up with the book on their chests in the morning?  I haven’t cracked it very far myself - maybe today I can get some more read.

The SGM(R) finished up his accounting course last night.  Only one more course to take then he can move forward with his larger degree.  He is planning a trip to visit friends and his mother, then starts work at his civilian job in mid-August.  We have to go shopping to find him some work clothes.   Twenty-three+ years of wearing the same thing every day doesn’t leave much for a closet with many civilian clothes.

The country is straining at the seams.  I feel at times like we are all in a whirl-wind headed for Kansas and no red shoes to take us home.  The left is doing its damndest to destroy all this great nation was founded on and turn it into a socialist country, with no freedoms or choices.  I fear we are losing that which made us a great nation.  All because of hate.

  1. I so agree with what you’re saying there, Jo.

Interesting the COC the couch guest, etc. I’m not that good at changing my schedule, either. I feel like the guy in rainman sometimes - who needs to see Judge Wapner at 4:00.
