Specials Today

Well I had this great post written up about the idiot fit my cable company threw this past weekend, and now it may all be a mote point

**UPDATE: It is now a mote point officially ***

See our local only cable company sent this intense letter stating we were going to have a black out on our system of the two stations from across the river on June 6th unless we “pay up” for them.  Well, turns out one wasn’t making that demand and the other one has already been charging for access … so why the hair tearing correspondence?  Just to rile us up with half-truths.

I believe the cable company lost some viewers though - there have been a lot more DIRECTV trucks in the area the last few days.   I suppose they are thinking: “If we are going to have to get an antenna to get local channels, why deal with the crap we get from the cable company then?“  We were considering it, but to get what we have now, plus add the expense of an antenna, the monthly cost would be much higher.   In fact, we are probably going to upgrade one receiver to a DVR/HD box.  Also, we have two cable ready televisions and with DIRECTV we would loose them.

So for all that the cable company isn’t, we are stuck with them for now.

  1. The whole thing… to me that is, is that everything like this that comes along ends up trickling down to us, the consumer. The local TV stations want a piece of the cable rebroadcast pie so the cost of it is then happily handed to the subscriber.

I find plenty of fault with both the TV stations and our monopoly holding cable company. They’re just looking out for number one… and that ain’t us. If we want a fair shake, I guess we’re going to have to shake the tree ourselves on occasion and see what falls.
