On Fox last night was the season/series premier of “Bones” inspired by the life Kathy Reichs and her character Temperance Brennon.

I taped it since I had a wives function and was excited to watch it when I got home. I do not recognize Emily Deschanel who plays Temperance, but David Borenanaz was “Angel” and on “Buffy” before that. He’s an amazing actor.

I have read all of Kathy’s books, except for “Monday Mourning” which is sitting on my coffee table.

The Temperance in the show is a little more edgier, harder, and in some ways dumber than the Temperance of the books. Either I am reading the character wrong in the books, or they’ve put more into her for the show. In the books, Temperance works in both the US and Canada, but I got the impression from this first hour, her on the show only works in the US. In the book Tempe is seperated from her husband, who she has a daughter with, and is dating — or trying to — a detective from Canada.

BUT — did I like the show?

Yes. Because the basis of the books was still there. Temperance is more at home with dead bodies and bones than with the humans that fill her world. In the book she works mainly by herself, but on the TV show, she has a whole team around her.

I will give it a season’s chance and see what they do with it. Usually when I end up liking a show, ala “Firefly“, it gets cancelled after the first year. Maybe Fox will give this one a chance like they did “24“.
