Get Off It Mayor Nagin
Mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin said this:
“I need reinforcements, I need troops, man. I need 500 buses,”… “Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get that [expletive] moving to New Orleans … This is a major, major, major deal. I can’t emphasize that enough.”
But then — he had these:

Just sitting around before the Hurricane hit.
Me thinks someone needs to start eating some serious crow folks!
Combs Spouts Off has a great post on just this, with more information here.

I remember sitting in a conference room at work Tuesday morning, watching the news about the levee breaks, saying that every bus in the city should be mobilized. The Bush Adminstration is to blame? Hardly. New Orleans is to blame for sitting around waiting for the federal government to take action.

I’m wondering why the buses weren’t staged in some outside area so they could be used to evacuate the poor/those without transportation when the mayor issued the evacuation order in the beginning…before the levees were even breached. That appears to be poor LOCAL planning. Nagin needs to be called on it and do some ’splainin’ himself vs. cursing and blaming others.

Yeah, this got me pissed too. Blaming Bush, cursing God’s name in the process, and its really more this guy’s fault than anyones.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
It’s perhaps not fair to be too critical of any government official or agency in the face of such a disaster, but it does seem that Nagin wasn’t quite on the ball here.
Hopefully, he and the other state and local officials all through the hurricane-prone Gulf and southern Atlantic areas will learn a HUGE lesson from all this and be much better prepared next time.

Nothing like a little forward planning. No worries though, if you fail to adequately prepare your city, President Bush is always a convenient target. Leading from the rear rarely produces results.

Nagin is the product of 40 years of White Liberals. They have been told Blacks can not do for themselves, only government can look out for them. He cries for someone else to give him buses, not realizing that he had hundreds just sitting there. And when he realizes that he has failed in his responsibility to New Orleans, he starts blaming others. Like a baby, he only knows how to want and demand, not how to solve problems.
