<p>18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.</p>
<p>19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.</p>
<p>20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.</p>

<strong> In 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem, Defense of Fort McHenry. The poem was later put to the tune of (John Stafford Smith&#8217;s song) The Anacreontic Song, modified somewhat, and retitled The Star Spangled Banner. Congress proclaimed The Star Spangled Banner the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.</strong></p>
<p>Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn&#8217;s early light,<br />
What so proudly we hail&#8217;d at the twilight&#8217;s last gleaming?<br />
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro&#8217; the perilous fight,<br />
O&#8217;er the ramparts we watch&#8217;d, were so gallantly streaming?<br />
And the rockets&#8217; red glare, the bombs bursting in air,<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Please &#8211; can we stop giving attention to the fake holidays?</p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festivus">Festivus</a> and <a href="http://www.jewishworldreview.com/tony/snow123199.asp">Kwanzaa</a> are FAKE holidays.</p>
<p>One was created by a stupid, supposedly funny, television show that was unfortunately on the air waves too long (one show should have been enough to put that show in the crapper).</p>
<p>The other was created by a <a href="http://www.nathanielturner.com/karenga2.htm">convicted felon</a>, claiming it as the Black Alternative to Christmas.  Please tell me where we need an alternative to Jesus?  Most black people I know are very devote to the Bible and don&#8217;t need an alternative to Christmas.  But then there are those that fall into the trap of wanting to &#8220;fit in&#8221;, so go along with Kwanzaa.</p>
<p>Festivus is supposedly just a fun way of celebrating something stupid and since the whole concept is stupid, I can believe that.  Anyone celebrating or taking it serious needs their heads examined and taste in comedy shows questioned.</p>
<p>People who fall into the Kwanzaa trap though are really scary.  Kwanzaa is NOT A FEDERAL OR OFFICIAL holiday.  This abomination of a celebration as an alternative to Christmas should be shunned by EVERYONE that even basically understands the idea of Christmas and what it stands for.  Kwanzaa wants to take away the belief in Jesus Christ and replace it with some mumbo jumbo cooked up in a jail cell.</p>
<p>You who celebrate either should be ashamed &#8230;</p>
<p>&#8230; there is only one reason for the season &#8212; and that&#8217;s to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Saviour.</p>

<p>WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houfes of Congress have, by their joint committee, requefted me &#8220;to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to eftablifh a form of government for their safety and happiness:&#8221;</p>

<p>NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and affign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of thefe States to the fervice of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our fincere and humble thanksfor His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the fignal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpofitions of His providence in the courfe and conclufion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have fince enjoyed;&#8211; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to eftablish Conftitutions of government for our fafety and happinefs, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;&#8211; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are bleffed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffufing useful knowledge;&#8211; and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleafed to confer upon us.</p>
<p>And also, that we may then unite in moft humbly offering our prayers and fupplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and befeech Him to pardon our national and other tranfgreffions;&#8211; to enable us all, whether in publick or private ftations, to perform our feveral and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a bleffing to all the people by conftantly being a Government of wife, juft, and conftitutional laws, difcreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all fovereigns and nations (especially fuch as have shewn kindnefs unto us); and to blefs them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increafe of fcience among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind fuch a degree of temporal profperity as he alone knows to be beft.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #008000;"><em>About that time Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Empire. This was the first census when Quirinius was the governor of Syria. Everyone had to travel to his hometown to be accounted for. So Joseph went from the Galilean town of Nazareth up to Bethlehem in Judah, David&#8217;s hometown, for the census. As a decendant of David he had to go there. He went with Mary, his fiancee, who was pregnant.</em></span><em><span style="color: #008000;">While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped Him in a blanket and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the hostel.</span></em></p>

<p><em><span style="color: #008000;">There were shepherds camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God&#8217;s angel stood among them and God&#8217;s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid. I&#8217;m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David&#8217;s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you&#8217;re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.&#8221;</span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="color: #008000;">At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God&#8217;s praises: &#8220;Glory to God in the heavenly heights; Peace to all men and women on earth who please Him.&#8221;</span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="color: #008000;">As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the shepherds talked it over. &#8220;Let&#8217;s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.&#8221; They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the shepherds were impressed.</span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="color: #008000;">Mary kept all these things to herself, holding them dear, deep within herself. The shepherds returned and let loose, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen. It turned out exactly the way they&#8217;d been told!</span></em><br />

<p>We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.</p>
<p>He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.</p>
<p>He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.</p>
<p>He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.</p>
<p>He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.</p>
<p>He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.</p>
<p>He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.</p>
<p>He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.</p>
<p>He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.</p>
<p>He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.</p>
<p>He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.</p>
<p>He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.</p>
<p>He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.</p>
<p>He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:</p>
<p>For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:</p>
<p>For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:</p>
<p>For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:</p>
<p>For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:</p>
<p>For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:</p>
<p>For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:</p>
<p>For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies</p>
<p>For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:</p>
<p>For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.</p>
<p>He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.</p>
<p>He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.</p>
<p>He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty &amp; Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.</p>
<p>He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.</p>
<p>He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.</p>
<p>In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.</p>
<p>Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.</p>
<p>We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. — And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-3884" title="Memorial Day" src="http://joscafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/image001-300x232.jpg" alt="Memorial Day" width="300" height="232" />The Classroom.  A lesson that should be taught in all schools and colleges</p>
<p>Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten.</p>
<p>On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.</p>
<p>When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks. &#8216;Ms. Cothren, where&#8217;s our desks?&#8217;</p>
<p>She replied, &#8216;You can&#8217;t have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk.&#8217;</p>
<p>They thought, &#8216;Well, maybe it&#8217;s our grades.&#8217;</p>
<p>&#8216;No,&#8217; she said.</p>
<p>&#8216;Maybe it&#8217;s our behavior.&#8217;</p>
<p>She told them, &#8216;No, it&#8217;s not even your behavior..&#8217;</p>
<p>And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.</p>
<p>By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms.Cothren&#8217;s classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.</p>
<p>The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, &#8216;Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you.&#8217;</p>
<p>At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.</p>
<p>Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk.</p>
<p>The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand along side the wall.</p>
<p>By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.</p>
<p>Martha said, &#8216;You didn&#8217;t earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it&#8217;s up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don&#8217;t ever forget it.&#8217;</p>
<p>By the way, this is a true story. Please consider passing this along so others won&#8217;t forget that the freedoms we have in this great country were earned by U. S. Veterans.</p>
<p><span style="color: #993300;">Remember today those that gave all and are willing to give all for the freedoms you enjoy in this country. </span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Saint Patrick (estimated AD 387 &#8211; AD 461), said to have been born Maewyn Succat, was a Roman Britain-born Christian missionary and is the patron saint of Ireland along with Brigid of Kildare and Columba. When he was about sixteen he was captured by Irish raiders and taken from his native Wales as a slave to Ireland, where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. <img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-3783" title="st_patricks_hat" src="http://joscafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/st_patricks_hat.jpg" alt="st_patricks_hat" width="351" height="281" /></p>
<p>After entering the church, he later returned to Ireland as a missionary in the north and west of the island, but little is known about the places where he worked and no link can be made between Patrick and any church. By the eighth century he had become the patron saint of Ireland. The Irish monastery system evolved after the time of Patrick and the Irish church did not develop the diocesan model that Patrick and the other early missionaries had tried to establish.</p>
<p>Pious legend credits Patrick with banishing snakes from the island, though all evidence suggests that post-glacial Ireland never had snakes; one suggestion is that snakes referred to the serpent symbolism of the Druids of that time and place, as shown for instance on coins minted in Gaul, or that it could have referred to beliefs such as Pelagianism, symbolized as “serpents”. Legend also credits Patrick with teaching the Irish about the concept of the Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a 3-leaved clover, using it to highlight the Christian belief of &#8216;three divine persons in the one God&#8217; (as opposed to the Arian belief that was popular in Patrick&#8217;s time). <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick"><em>~Wikipedia</em></a></p>
