This is What You Elected, Part 4

The precedent has been set with Geithner …

Cheat on your taxes and you are now eligible to work for the Obama Administration.

Enter former Senator from SD Tom Daschle

ABC News has obtained the Senate Finance Committee Report on Tom Daschle’s nomination to be Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, which indicates that Daschle’s tax problems were even more substantial than earlier reported.

The report indicates that Daschle’s failure to pay more than $101,000 taxes on the car and driver a wealthy friend let him use from 2005 through 2007 is not the only tax issue the former Senate Majority Leader has been dealing with since his December nomination prompted a more thorough examination of his income tax returns.

Mr. Daschle also didn’t report $83,333 in consulting income in 2007.

Then we find out that Tom Daschle has previously been pretty solid on his beliefs about tax evaders.

“Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter. ” Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998, p. S4507. *

Yes folks – this is change you can believe in.  Excuse me while I go throw up.

You know, this really aggravates me to no end. My late husband didn’t run his business correctly; and unfortunately in the past few years I found out that I owe 60,000 in back taxes because 1. of him and 2. I didn’t stay informed. Now that I am working the IRS has tagged me for the debt. They have taken my last two years worth of refunds. I have tried the Innocent Spouse relief avenue but was denied and even took it up with a tax attorney. Now I am stuck with this debt; a debt I obviously can not pay. There is one more avenue I can try and I can’t discuss it here. I’m just thankful I was able to sell my house when I did; which had several liens on it and I only ended up making a profit of 2,000 on it but I don’t care, I am out from under it. The profit I would have made went to pay off the liens.

I try to stay informed nowadays and I am a different woman today than I was several years ago. Lesson learned.
