Thoughts on Inauguration Day – Trelaina

Tuesday, 20 January 2009, 7:46

Well, here we are…the big day. A few thoughts from me:

** Do you support the new President?
To the extent he is the POTUS, yes. I do not support his views or his policies so long as they continue to be liberal/socialist in nature. If he embraces a view I share, I’ll support him.

** Is he “your” President?
Yes.

** Do you condemn those who say “Not My President”?
Nope. I subscribe to the idea that anything thrown at President Bush is fair game against President Obama. Sorry libs, but that gives us a LOT of options. Maybe you should have thought of that.

** Do you want him to succeed?
No. And I can hear the screaming “but if he fails, the country fails!”. Not necessarily. I don’t want the Presidency to fail, and I don’t want our country to fail…but I do not want Obama to implement the policies he wants. I do not want socialized medicine, open and free abortions, open marriage (oh, it’ll get there, trust me) or redistribution of wealth. I can hope for failure there without hoping for total failure.

** Are you going to watch the Inauguration?
I’m going to listen to Rush’s commentary on it. I may turn on one of the channels with sound muted (unless it’s on CSPAN with no commentary) so my son can see what peaceful transfer of power looks like.

** What will you be doing for the next 4 years?
A lot of praying. I also plan to join organizations that support the Conservative point of view. I’ve signed up to volunteer for my local GOP. I’ve joined the Red State Army of Activists and Top Conservatives on Twitter.
Finally, I plan to do some major financial restructuring to protect what little money I have from the liberal socialist theives in Washington and the possible job loss that is coming my way (thanks, democrats…I’ll blame you if it happens).

** What are you telling your children?
My son hasn’t asked much since the election. If he asks, I’ll tell him what I told him then…I do not agree with Obama’s views and I did not want him to be President. Now that he is, we have to deal with it…but we also have to stand our ground and push our views.

Nice post, Trelaina. I agree with you on this (especially on the part where you want his policies to fail). (I think I know who that ‘screaming’ comment was directed to – Like you, I’ll be doing a LOT of praying – a lot more than what I was doing for the past 16 years.

I’ve also joined TCOT, and I’m about to go check out the other one. May God be with our country, and may God be with our new president.

I agree with your viewpoint today, Trelaina, wholeheartedly. Nicely stated. I do have the Inauguration on, at the moment, on FOX news. I figure they’ll be the lesser of all the evils at gushing every moment over B.O. However, I am not going to watch his address. I will pick up the bits and pieces later. I have no desire to be a part of the adulation he’s getting or witness it. I don’t believe our President should be a celebrity.

I do find it wonderful that many of the FOX commentators have made it a point to say the Bush Administration managed to provide the B.O. team with a smooth transition, helpful in every aspect. I say, how’s that for responsibility and respectibility? Couldn’t ask for better and I am so proud of them for it. But, that will be lost in the coming days and I doubt the other news outlets are even giving the Bush Admin. credit for it.

Yes, definitely prayer is needed for all of us!

I try to keep in mind that there are 5 million+(something like that) people who did not vote for B.O., we aren’t completely lost yet!

Leslie´s last blog post … Insuance is part of my medical team?????

Eric, it really wasn’t directed at you, because you weren’t screaming I’ve heard so many people tell us we have to shut up and accept this because we’re good Americans who don’t want the country to fail. They’re calling the talk shows demanding our loyalty.

It’s a tactic…and a good one, because it plays on the strengths of Conservatives and the values we hold dear. It puts us on the defensive, and dammit, I don’t WANT TO BE ON THE DEFENSIVE. We don’t have to be as bad as they are, but we are allowed to oppose this President just as they opposed Bush.

We absolutely HAVE to stand our ground. We are not nobodies because we are not in power…they didn’t stand for that and we shouldn’t either. If we slouch in the corner and cry, we just validate their opinions. We are strong and we need to step up!

:::stepping away from soapbox now LOL:::

    Trelaina,

I agree – I don’t want to be on the defensive, either. His speech was a good one, however – it was a little scary too…I didn’t like hearing “for the common good”. It reminded me a little bit too much of Hitler!

I’ll be standing right there with you and Jo through these upcoming tough four years; maybe we can win back the White House and restore our country to a democracy (if the libs leave us anything).
