The SGM and I watched the RNC last night via CSPAN. Sure I love Fox News, but I really wanted to see the tributes to Pres. Reagan and Pres. H.W. Bush. Please - no commercials!!
Laura Bush looked 30 years her age in a nice bright red dress (jealous - must start yoga asap).

McCain / Palin '08
Cindy McCain looked tired, but jazzed and of course amazing! I thought Cindy only brought one baby back from Mother Teresa’s orphanage - boy was I wrong. She brought back two baby girls, and we got to see both of them last night. Cindy and John’s daughter of course, but Niki too. Niki’s dad, Wes Gullett spoke about the joy Niki brought to their lives, the joy Cindy brings to many lives and Niki stood there looking at her dad with such love of a daughter to a father. Laura Bush reminded us of all the traveling and works Cindy McCain is doing while also campaigning. (What has Michelle “I’m finally proud of my country” Obama been doing to help others?)
There was a tribute to Medal of Honor Winner, U.S. Navy SEAL Michael Monsoor who gave his life in Afghanistan by throwing himself on a grenade to save his buddies. Tears flowed in our living room and I’m sure at the RNC (cameras didn’t show the crowd during the video).
After a tribute to Pres. Reagan came Fred Thompson and he rocked the casba convention! I know the SGM and I were clapping, high fiving and whooping it up and the people at the convention were too! Fred laid it on the line about how much damage will be done to this country and its people if “The One” (ie: Carter II) is elected (shudder) [Note: Anyone know a good place to hide a savings account to keep him from taking it from us and giving to the poor? Let me know in comments.] He spoke of John McCain’s time in Vietnam - being shot down twice (the liberals say he crashed the first time, leaving out the “oops” rocket that hit him and his ship, but what are a few truths to libs uh?) and ending up in a POW camp. Now I’ve read John’s story (got the book over there on the bookshelves) but Fred Thompson’s acting ability to bring a story to life touched everyone as he told it. The SGM was even choking a bit. It reminds me how much this man has already given to this country, long before “The One” was a twinkle (or afterthought) in his unmarried mommy + daddy’s eyes.
Then Joe Liberman walked on stage and declared his friendship and belief in John McCain’s ability to run this country. The SGM asked which Repulican of note spoke at the DNC. Anyone? Let us know in comments. Joe after Fred was wrong, they should have flipped them around - but Joe is good ol’ Joe. He spoke from the heart to the people who are democrats, independents and undecideds. This is what is important Democrats - one of your own doesn’t even want your “God in Waiting” to run this country.
Enough - must get ready for work and tonight we get Sarah at the RNC! Yes, we’ll be watching and rockin’ the convention!

I watched on C-SPAN, too. Same reason. I have so much respect for Laura Bush and Cindy McCain, I can’t tell you.
At the Dem Convention - not that I watched, but read about - Their big ‘names’ from the Republican side were Susan Eisenhower and Jim Leach. Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of Ike, is married to a Russian now and didn’t even support or vote for GWB in 2004. She supported Kerry.
Jim Leach used to be a congressman from Iowa and has been out of office for some time now. Even his own constituents didn’t want him anymore.
Michael Monsoor’s story made me cry again, too. Hubs was using a kleenex when it was finished, too. Hubs said Mike did it the proper way, putting his helmet down over the grenade, even under all that pressure of the moment. (Hubs is USAF vet from Vietnam days.)
Looking forward to tonight.
