I could say a lot about my opinion of John Edwards right now - not that I had much respect for him before he decided to publicly admit an affair. However, I’ll hold back mainly because it appears his wife chose to stay with him and work things out:
Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.
John Edwards, you are one damned lucky man. I hope you realize that.
I also hope you keep that feeling of being “stripped bare” for the rest of your miserable life. It’s the least of what you deserve.

And we are suppose to believe him on this one point? I feel awful for Mrs. Edwards - and just like I did about Hillary - she should leave him and take everything he has and kick him to the curb. But that’s me.

Is it everything about John Edwards plus the affair or solely the affair that inspired this post? Put another way, if John Edwards was trustworthy in general or just an ordinary citizen would the affair on its own been sufficient to cause your dislike? Just curious.

The only thing newsworthy about the Edwards saga is that an ambulance chaser finally got run over by a bus(t). :-)

Stanford,
As I said right off the bat in my post, I didn’t have much respect for him before he cheated on his wife. Infer from that what you want.
A man who cheats on his wife (REGARDLESS of his “reasons” or the “circumstances”
drops a couple of notches on my respect list just for cheating. Whether he goes lower depends a lot, in my book, on his wife’s decisions. Elizabeth Edwards has made a choice to stay with her husband and keep her family together. In respect of that choice I do not post my true feelings or use more direct language.
(Just so it’s clear…I’d feel the same if it was a woman cheating on her husband, and I couldn’t care less the status of the cheater.)
As for what inspired this post…have you never been touched, directly or indirectly, by either a life-threatening illness or infidelity?

I’ve lost respect for Elizabeth, too. She was told about this affair in 2006 and yet continued on in the charade of his as he jumped into the campaign and lied to reporters. Sorry, I’m over her, too.
And, a man talking about an affair should not be using the term “stripped bare” when discussing it! Just sayin’.
