Good Monday Morning everyone.
Like the new theme?
An article in Medical News TODAY, “Roughly 86 percent of Americans age 18 and older may be overweight or obese by 2030 and related health care costs would double every decade and could reach $956.9 billion in 2030 - 1 of every 6 health care dollars spent — according to a new study published online by the journal, Obesity on July 24. ”
This is really really sad. How many people do you see in your daily travels that are obviously dealing with weight issues? I wonder when I see adults if there is a medical problem … but when I look at the children, I’m saddened. Yes, they could have medical problems too, but when you see obese adults AND their obese children, I believe its a learned habit.
Why does it seem the poor the worst in this department? Because buying healthy food is expensive. Buying the cheap food is not and it is also unhealthy.
I also attribute a lot of the problem to inactivity. (Raising hand) I’m just as guilty. I can sit for hours in front of the computer, or laying on the couch watching the telly. BUT, I can say that because I am a diabetic, I do eat as healthy as possible. Thankfully my metformin also kills the appetite and therefore I do not munch as badly as I use to. However, that is no excuse for not getting outside and throwing the ball for Roscoe or taking him for a walk.
When I was growing up, we had PE in school, even going back to kindergarten and the earlier school years, we had recess after lunch. Instead of eating our lunches and going back to our desks, we played. But the liberals have stopped all that. Don’t want to have children with hurt feelings for not being picked for teams or ignored on the playground, no we’ll just help them get fatter and unhealthy.
We are a fat nation, an obese nation - majority wise anyway.
- Pre-pregnancy diabetes tied to more birth defects
Diabetic women who get pregnant are three to four times more likely to have a child with birth defects than other women, according to new government research. - Managing The Risk Of Developing Type 2 Diabetes As You Age
Carrying extra weight and getting little exercise increase a person’s risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, but those risk factors don’t inevitably mean you’ll develop the disease. Even if patients discover they have diabetes, vigilant self-management can reduce the chance or delay the onset of complications that involve serious illness, disability and diminished quality of life, medical experts say.
The first prevention of diabetes brought on by obesity - eat as healthy as possible and get out and walk.
Okay … where’s the leash? ROSCOE!!
