Every day there seems to be more advancements in the treatment of diabetes, but still no cure. The Type I’s are in the need first, my opinion, because their pancreas’ have completed stopped working. For the most post, Type II’s have a functioning pancreas, but other functions of the body have slowed down, or stopped.
For me, my cells do not retain sugar, which is converted in to fat, which is what feeds the body. With an overabundance of glucose (sugar) in my system and my cells slamming the door to receiving it, my body could not make fat and my pancreas was working overtime to trying and force the cells to do what they are designed to do.
I started losing weight FAST! Since my fat stores were being depleted and not replenished, I dropped three sizes in three weeks. Wreaked havoc on my Goody’s credit care because nothing fit. Size 10 to Size 4 in three weeks. I’m not joking. But I wasn’t healthy. Once the medication kicked in, the weight started to return - in abundance. I crawled up to a size 14 before we adjusted my medication, I started taking Lantus, and I settled in a small size 10. That is where I have been since.
Each person is different in how they treat their diabetes, and no one person takes the exact same medication or dose. If you are not feeling well, your life is not as good as it could be, then find another doctor, or demand your current one find another avenue of approach. Sure, you might have to pay out of pocket, but what is more important, money or your health? When my thryoid treatment was going wrong, that’s exactly what I did - I paid for my own labs and another doctor. It saved my life.
Don’t wait too long to find the right doctor or medications - don’t let this condition destroy your life because you won’t take control.
I control my diabetes and thyroid condition - they do not control me.
