I Could Have Choked Her
I headed to the grocery store during lunch today, parking in my normal area for a good walk in. On the way to store I got behind three people who had just exited an SUV: a young gal probably in high-school, her boyfriend (I think) and an older woman. I figured she was the mother to one or both of the younger ones.
Just before walking into the store, the young girl abruptly turned around and told the older woman, “Don’t walk to close to me – I don’t need to be embarrassed.” The older woman stopped dead in her tracks. My heart dropped probably has hard as hers did by the expression on her face. I had to step around her to keep from running her full over.
After getting inside the store, I walked up behind the little witch and said, “You’re rude.” I caught up to her again in a few minutes and again said, “You’re rude.” The little twit-face did not acknowledge I said anything. I never saw her mother again, but if it had been me in her place, I would have gone back to the vehicle and left.
All three of these people were well dressed. The mother did not have curlers sticking out from under a scarf and dressed in a house coat and slippers. (I’ve seen these on people going to this store before)
All the way back to work I could envision my hands wrapped around that twit’s neck. My stomach still gets in knots thinking about how awful that poor woman must have felt at that exact moment. (shakes head in disbelief).
There went the future of this country.

I believe what you witnessed was typical teenager embarassment at parents. Similar to the stuff they show on TV, where the parent is driving the kid to school and he asks to be dropped off a half mile away (rather than be seen with mom or dad).
That said, it sounds as if this situation was ruder than usual. I hope that mom did something about it when they got home…and I’m GLAD you said something to that girl. Perhaps it will make her think.

It is the mother who should be embarrassed by her bratty child.
Where we lived (until we moved to Korea 3 weeks ago), kids were proud of their parents and it was actually cool to have your mom show up for lunch with you at school in jr and high school. No fooling! “Sir” and “Ma’am” is in in good circles. But there are always segments of society that are rude and not up to speed on what families should look like.
Embarrassing for them. And good for you telling that girl she was rude. She indeed is.
