Democrats Have No Base

by Jo | January 16th, 2008

base /beɪs/ noun, adjective, verb
based, bas·ing
–noun
1. the bottom support of anything; that on which a thing stands or rests: a metal base for the table.
2. a fundamental principle or groundwork; foundation; basis: the base of needed reforms.

I went to bed last night knowing two things:
      1. I had to get up the next day and go to work, no matter what happened in Michigan, and
      2. Hillary Clinton won by default.  Will she claim this win as hard as she did the one in NH or is she just going to slither to the next state?

After getting set for the day, I ventured to Real Clear Politics to check out the results further.  Even though we know that polls are not accurate from one person to the next, I wanted to see the exit polls.   RCP linked to CNN’s Election Center for the exit polls, and when looking at the numbers it is very clear the Democrats Have No Base.

Looking at the various questions asked and if the people were uncommitted or not, the Democrats have more people in the uncommitted column than the Republicans.  (Why uncommitteds are allowed to vote this way is beyond me.)

The talking heads mull over there not being a clear leader on the Republican side yet, but by these exit polls it seems to me the Republican horse race is a solid one.  The Democrats horses’ are still in the barn with their backsides to the door.  Of course considering that the top contenders are running on no foundation of experience, that could be the reason for the uncommitteds.

Right now Romney has the delegate count over Huckabee, then McCain.  Thompson is beating Rudy, who is getting beat by Ron Paul.

On to South Carolina.

Me, I’m going to work.

  1. It is interesting in the stats from Michigan that Hillary didn’t carry the votes of blacks, the younger voters, or men. Seems to me that bodes really well for Obama. And, that the Obama people were sending out memos to news organizations asking them to not report Hillary’s ‘victory’ as such shows their aggression against her now.

  2. The blacks have a candidate if they would stop long enough to realize that the Clintons did nothing for this country, especially the black part, other than use them for votes than forgot about them. I don’t think the female vote for Billary is as big as they are trying to stay it is either.

I heard there were push polls going on in SC against Thompson, some stating he was for partial birth abortion.
