If Not Rudy, Who?

by Jo | December 2nd, 2007

Jay over at Stop the ACLU has a great post on his feelings about a Rudy Giulani presidency.  Even if you haven’t made up your mind, read it.  It’s thought provoking and not filled with fighting words so even the comments are civil!!

All this election stuff started too early for me.   I haven’t decided yet who I like - but will support the Republican candidate whoever it is –

… but think of this folks … who would be worse, Rudy or Hillary?

If it takes us holding our noses to vote for Rudy to keep that witch out of there, I will close my eyes too.

I have a really bad feeling about what this country will look like if Hillary get’s “back” in office for another eight years.

Jay makes enough good points to give one pause, but do any of the Republican candidates match everyone’s wishes for Commander in Chief?

I say no.

I want:

  • …the borders slammed shut NOW and all employers of illegal immigrants locked up under the jail.
  • …our military respected.  That can’t be brought forth by a President, but the one we have has left ours out there flapping.   Why doesn’t he televise, at least once a month, his trips to Walter Reed?  Why aren’t these Code Pink asswipes and that lost church in Kansas shoved so far away from any military function they would look stupid where they ended up protesting?   I want a strong President, and Congress to back him up, that would stop the trashing of our military.
  • …the IRS sent packing and a flat tax implemented.
  • …term limits put on congress.  Eight years, out - just like the President.
  • …limits put on medical malpractice judgments awarded by Courts, jury or not.
  • …drug companies to give up some profit, unless they can prove that at least 80% is being returned to research to cure what is out there killing us, to keep the prices down.
  • …the supreme court to overturn the imminent domain bullshit and the President to lead the fight for the rights of each legal citizen in this country to keep what they have worked for.
  • …the ACLU put in jail.

These are just a few, some feasible, some not.

No one candidate is going to have all we want/need for our country - but folks, trust me on this - it isn’t Hillary.

  1. My suggestions. If we want the most principled conservative…Duncan Hunter. Of course he has no chance, and I can’t figure out why. If we add electability to the factor, I’d go with Fred Thompson.

I will hold my nose and vote for Mitt or Huckabee, I won’t vote for Rudy at all. There is no difference of any significance between him and Hillary.

  2. …drug companies to give up some profit, unless they can prove that at least 80% is being returned to research to cure what is out there killing us, to keep the prices down.

This is the only one I disagree with…not because it shouldn’t happen but because I generally shudder at anything that includes government intervention. The government threatening a company isn’t the best solution. You don’t get quality work that way (do you do your best work when you’ve just been threatened?) and it just opens the door for more legislation.

I do think that the healthcare system should be opened up - we should know what the services cost, we should have freedom to buy insurance from any company out there, and there should be freedom from overwhelming, unreasonable lawsuits.

Once the healthcare system is open, you & I could do a lot more screaming about what we want in our healthcare. If the doctors, insurance companies and drug companies heard us screaming and knew we could take our business elsewhere, they would do what we wanted. Competition, and the threat of lost profits while the other guy rakes in the money, are the best way.

  3. Jay, there is a HUGE!!!! difference between Rudy and Hillary. I know what you’re feeling and I am with you (leaning Fred) but there’s something you have to remember….

Hillary is a socialist democrat who wants the government to control your life. She would have support from democrats in congress. If she thought she could pull a Hugo Chavez she probably would. I’m quite serious in that opinion.

ANY Republican, even one with socialist/liberal leanings, is Republican enough to be on our ticket. He would be, to at least some extent, at the mercy of the Republicans in congress and the party in general.

So, fight for your candidates in the primaries (that’s what they are for!!!) but please, please consider voting for the chosen nominee in the general. They ARE better than Hillary!!
