While listening to the news this morning, the business person made a comment that this holiday season gas reaching $100 a barrel is of course weighing heavy on all consumers’ minds.

Uh?   Ah - I’m not thinking about that.  I’m worried about not being able to get the right gift for the SGM - and that Bubba might be getting sick again - but NOT if gas will hit that high.

Same goes with the housing market.  We can pay our mortgage payments because we weren’t stupid enough to buy outside our means and DID NOT get sucked into an ARM.  But all you hear in the national and local media is about people losing their homes and OMG the government has to do something about it.

People - lets get real here now.  Stop and think about it and breath.  Do you know anyone that has made major life changes because oil might hit $100 a barrel?  Do you know anyone who has moved to a sublet apartment because they couldn’t afford their mortgage anymore?

Anyone?

I don’t know any in my circle of people.   So lets think about this for a second.  Just how many people out there are losing their homes compared to the total amount of people who have mortages?  I can’t seem to find the figures anywhere, but in 2006 Realty Times had an article on it.  Sounds like this was expected due to the ARMs coming up within their normal marturing time-frame.

So the price of what I cannot control is not weighing heavy on my mind this Christmas season, and will not effect my spending.

  1. Gas hitting a $100 a barrel has a huge impact on my life. My company does 26 conventions a year around the country and for the past 3 weeks it was cheaper for me to leave my crew on the road in hotels than for them to come home between shows. They understood, but they ended up spending 20 days on the road without seeing home.

UPS charges me a fuel surcharge on all packages that floats with the price of oil, I can never predict what it’s going to be.

The list of how oil prices effect my life is endless and hitting a $100 a barrel weights on my mind daily.

(love your Christmas theme btw )

  2. Sweetie, I cannot appreciate your situation, as I am not in my own business.

But my point is that I do not believe the majority of the consumers camped out at WalMart for the shopping to begin are really worrying about it all that much.

  3. Okay… yeah… that may just be me
