Type 2 Diabetes and Insulin

Tuesday, 6 November 2007, 5:07

In October 2005, I went on insulin to assist in my control of Type 2 Diabetes.  It was the best move I had made, to date, in sugar control.  I use 10 units of Lantus daily and have not changed its script since.   Here is from my post about what happened after the first shot:

Did I notice anything right away? No. But the next morning I had a BG reading of 115. Amazing considering it was 299 in the doctor’s office the day before. I still had an over 200 reading before supper, but this morning it was 185. I see the doctor in 2 weeks to get any adjustments, but like any new medication dosage, you start small and go up and you have to give it time. But so far I’m pleased. I haven’t had a 115 reading in months!

Wish I’d done this months ago? Yeah.

If you are considering going on insulin for you diabetes Type 2 control, start here: Insulin: Who Needs It and Who Doesnt?

I still believe going on insulin early in my treatment was the best option for me.  What you choose is what you need.

If you need help or advice on insulin, I’d strongly recommend the TuDiabetes social networking site. It’s got lots of great information about diabetes and you can find me there at http://tudiabetes.com/profile/bernfarr.

Bernard thank you for the information – but did you read the post? I’m not deleting this as spam, but I have been on insulin for a couple years now. But hopefully your advice link will be a benefit to others.

Thank you for posting this article. As a type 2 diabetic, it was an awesome read for me.

This was the first time I came across your blog (it was linked on another blog I read) and I’m liking what I see so far so I added you to my D-Blogs Blogroll on my site. I’ve also added you to my reader. I look forward to your future posts!
