Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Same question regarding depression and diabetes.  Diabetics know to watch out for depression, but what if you were depressed first?

Depression runs in my family.  Its a fact I’ve known for many years and one I’ve dealt with on my own for many years.  When things don’t go right - not necessarily my way, but not right - I can climb down into a well of darkness that can take days, weeks, months to climb out of.  I have never sought professional help, seemingly always knowing where I am and that I can, and have, gotten myself out of that pit.  But I wonder if not taking the time to seek professional help if I’ve kept myself down longer than I should have? 

It appears from what I’ve read, depression can be a precursor to diabetes.  Although I believe mine came from the first attack on my endocrine system, ie: Graves Disease, the depression probably didn’t help matters.   As I’m getting older and moving into a period of my life where my body is changing, the depression seems to hit once a month - hard.  Maybe its time to talk to that professional?
