** UPdate at bottom**

I have nothing to say on this. It is sad.

Members of the U.S. military have been vilified for their service and have faced criminal charges for battlefield decisions and congressional accusations of rampant “hate crimes.” Now a California post office also has banned photographs of local soldiers who are defending their country.
“It’s an emotional issue and people look at their post office as a hub of the community, but the post office is there to do postal business and it’s not a place to post things or make displays,” postal spokesman Richard Maher told the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
The newspaper reported that “a customer” had complained that the display, which over the years has featured dozens of photos of troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, including many whose relatives use the Paso Robles Post Office, was pro-war.

Update — Post Office Backs Down From Radical Kook Left Complaint

Okay that’s not the headline, but should be … here it is:

Paso Robles Post Office again posts photos of local troops” via SanLuisObispo.com

The Paso Robles post office received the news Monday morning that they could replace the photos, Milby said.

“We’re just ecstatic on behalf of the community,”Milby said.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Richard Maher said Deputy Postmaster General Pat Donohue made the decision to allow the photos to be put back up because of overwhelming requests from people in Paso Robles and elsewhere.

“We understand the postal service occupies a unique position in most communities,” Maher said. “When there’s a great expression of support for taking an action, we think it prudent to relax our guidelines and meet the overwhelming wish of the community.”

The regulation against displaying nonpostal material at any U.S. post office remains in effect.

What the article doesn’t say is that one anti-war kook complained and the whole had to suffer.  The whole won — as it should be.  The whole shouldn’t suffer because one person is wrong.

When most of us think of having your picture in the Post Office, it evokes images of the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted.

Sounds to me like this left coast soldier hater just wanted an excuse to make trouble.

It really is sad…our heritage getting flushed down the tubes because the general population is so far away from things military and don’t even know anyone who serves.
