A Tale of Three Headlines

October 23rd, 2007 · 3 Comments · News

What do you get from these three headlines?

#1 tells me that the US killed 13 in a raid.

#2 tells me the US staged raids and killed 13

#3 tells me there was a battle in a Shiite area of Iraq and 10 were killed and of course its the US’s fault.   Note all three headlines were spewed out by the AP?  (snort)

The story from Reuters (who I don’t trust any further than the AP)

BAGHDAD, Oct 21 (Reuters) - U.S. air strikes killed at least 10 people and wounded 42 early on Sunday in the northeastern Baghdad district of Sadr city, a stronghold for Shi’ite militants, police and hospital sources said.A police source in Sadr city said a 14-year-old boy was among the dead and that the raid at dawn on Sunday left several houses, shops and cars ablaze.

A second police source gave the same toll and said the heavy strikes came after a U.S. vehicle was targeted by a roadside bomb. He said the death toll may rise.

A health ministry source said 10 bodies and 42 wounded had been taken to Imam Ali hospital in Sadr city.

There was no immediate comment from U.S. forces in Iraq.

I know enough to take all headlines from the media with a grain of salt and realize there may be some truth to it, but … I also know that the Main Stream Media slants their news to do as much damage to the military and the Bush administration as they can (who are they going to attack after he leaves office?).

No - I have not been able to comfirm or deny the story as written by the two sources, so I will just keep it in the back of my mind and wonder what the truth really is.

I just know I’ll never get it from the AP or Reuters.

It’s a damned shame that we have been reduced to depending on outfits like the AP and Reuters for world news. They nearly duplicate each other, offering no depth and zero opportunity to see more than they want us to see.

When hubby was in Afghanistan, I use to check the DOD media reports for the truth of what was going on — since he’s been back, I don’t read the DOD site anymore. Time to start going back there I guess.

I completely agree with you. These organizations are all about the political agenda, not reporting the facts on the ground. Anywhere. Purely propaganda.
