The Cafe inhabitants are having a love affair with the mute buttons in the house and trucks.   What is it about these companies having to put on air the most annoying, embarassing commercials they can find?  Some of these contain stuff that would make my grandmother blush in her day.  I listen to the XM Radio in the truck and half the time I’m muting there too.

Viva Viagra?  OMG!  The first time I saw this commercial I thought it was about Las Vegas … boy did I get a shock as the song went on.  Good lord!  Elvis would be rolling in his grave.  Isn’t that song copyrighted to his estate?  If that is true, does that mean Lisa Marie or Priscilla let them use it?

The “male enhancement” Smiling Bob is another one.  Lord the SGM(R) and I fight to get to the mute button first when the smiling stick figure and his supposedly happy wife show up on our television.

Oh and let’s not forget the “happy period” one.  :: groan ::  Trust me on this folks — periods are NOT a happy event, no matter what protection you use, wings or not!!!  Wendy Aarons isn’t very “happy” about the commercial either.

Our local commercials have the music so loud you can hear them out the front door and down the street to the next house are our next annoyance.   Makes you want to buy some of the ActivOn products.

Any commercial that uses rap music goes into music oblivion too.  Excuse me McDonalds — I hate rap music!!   XM is putting on some Hispanic Music Appreciation Month celebration now and I hit the mute in the truck when that comes on.  When they have German Music Appreciation Month, I might listen.

I love the Jimmy Dean commercials with the sun, and now they’ve added the rainbow and hail, and smile whenever they come on.  Yes - I do buy their products too.  The annoying ones that have to be muted are for products I a) won’t buy or b) wouldn’t buy anyway.

So at the Cafe we’re having a love affair with our mute buttons.  It is a great relationship really.  Always there, always reliable, and always brings peace.
