In the Star Trek: TOS show “The Savage Curtain“, Abe Lincoln is on the bridge with Kirk and has this conversation:
Lincoln: What a charming Negress. Oh, forgive me, my dear. I know in my time some used that term as a description of property.
Uhura: But why should I object to that term, sir? In our century, we’ve learned not to fear words.
Words should not be feared. Words are given power by the people who say them or react to them. Ann Coulter knows this. Let’s not give that which offends power.
