Thanksgiving Thoughts

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

I’m sure many a blog has written a wonderful Thanksgiving post. Jo did so herself, just below this one.

Like Jo, I send my thanks to our military, and their families celebrating at home without them. Each of them makes a sacrifice the rest of us couldn’t repay in a hundred lifetimes.

Those leaders who continue the war against those who would see us destroyed or converted also have my thanks. I only hope that they do not falter under the pressures a democratic Congress will surely present.

I am thankful for the usual things, of course, but these in particular pop to mind.

I found a post that speaks exactly what I am (or should be) thinking on a day like today:

This holiday is really about grounding; about being reminded that you are part of something bigger and that you belong somewhere. It’s about family, and feuds being temporarily restrained, and visiting relatives you always dread seeing but usually think afterwards weren’t so bad after all.

It’s about remembering those not alive anymore or those not able (sometimes not willing) to come for the family gathering. It is about yourself and just exactly where you find yourself in the bigger world around you. In however many fleeting seconds you allow this thought to roil around in your brain, know this: you are alive and you are not alone, and for this we should all be thankful.

I hope each of you has a wonderful day.
