So, Sunday morning I sign on as usual, first thing in the morning. Play around a bit, talk to Jo via IM, play Pogo. Ran a few cleanup utilities, nothing out of the ordinary.

My son asks me to install a new game, but the computer won’t read the CD player. That’s okay, the computer is pretty old, and that happens sometimes. I stick with the Golden Rule: When in Doubt, Restart.

Up pops a very strange message…”We apologize, but Windows did not start successfully”.

We Apologize??

It gives me a few options….which I tried, starting with “start normally”. Nothing. Last Good Configuration? Nothing. Safe Mode…three different options, all of which get me Nothing.

I pull out the laptop and start googling. Tried the error message itself…found a few fixes. One started a recovery program that took TWELVE HOURS. Nothing.

I then searched on the last file name that the computer hit before it locked. Hit a very depressing message board that implied I’d have to reformat everything. Then I saw a post that said, reset your BIOS to defaults. Huh? I haven’t messed with a computer BIOS menu in years. But, I did it…

…and I’m back in business.

Go figure!!
