Police charge man in rape of 5-year-old girl

A Lanett, Ala., man was charged Wednesday with the rape of a 5-year-old girl, Lanett Police Chief Ron Docimo said.

Jerome Larry Brooks, of 2057 32nd Drive SW, was walking down U.S. Highway 29in the late afternoon when Valley Police spotted and arrested him, Docimo said. Brooks is accused of raping the girl in Lanett on Monday, the chief said.

Lanett detectives had issued a warrant for Brooks’ arrest for first-degree rape after the victim allegedly identified him as her attacker, Docimo said.

Brooks is being held without bond at the Chambers County Detention Facility.
