Starting July 1st — If you’re illegally in my State (and supposedly the rest of the country) if you want medicaid — forget about it.  No more free-ride on “MY” tax money.

Riley says Alabama ready to enforce new Medicaid law
Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama Medicaid recipients will have to provide proof of U.S. citizenship to keep their benefits when a new law goes into effect July 1, state officials said Monday.

President Bush signed the Deficit Reduction Act into law in February intended to keep illegal aliens from improperly receiving government-funded medical care.

A person must be a citizen or qualified legal alien to receive regular Medicaid benefits.

Beginning in July, Medicaid benefits will be denied to those who are unable to show proof that they are citizens and Medicaid eligibility will be not awarded until required documentation is provided.

Current Medicaid recipients will have to provide proof of citizenship and identity, such as a birth certificate and driver’s license, at the time of their annual review in order to remain eligible for the program.

“Alabama Medicaid is a $4 billion program serving 900,000 individuals, and there is a constant challenge of making sure all funding goes where it is intended,” said Alabama Medicaid Director Carol Herrmann-Steckel said in a statement Monday. “We’re working with health care providers and beneficiaries to educate them on the documents that are required to show proof of citizenship and identity.”

Heard this on the local news last night and people they talked to were supportive of it.  One gentlemen did suggest that the documentation process not be increased, ie: let’s not add to the mounds of paperwork we already have to complete.

You have to provide a) a picture ID b) proof of citizenship.  Now the proof of citizenship can come in the form of a certified copy of a birth certificate (have), or passport, or other documents.  I would suppose that if you are a) adopted you would still have a birth certificate and adoption papers right?  Well check out this paragraph of an article found at RedOrbit.com on this:

“It’s a huge issue,” says Linda Lera-Randle El, director of Las Vegas’ nonprofit program Straight from the Streets. “In order to get a birth certificate, you have to have identification. We have people who actually don’t know who they are, people who were adopted as children, and we are trying to unravel where their adoption actually took place. … The number of people out there on the streets without ID far exceeds the number that have ID.”

I haven’t seen anything yet, but I betcha next week’s paycheck the ACLU will be all over this shortly. Lord knows them illegals should get everything free don’t'cha know.

  1. thank god for bob riley’s efforts to cut the free benefits which were meant for legal citizens of the state of alabama. Most other states are afraid to tackle the issue for fear of offending our newest residents. I do hope that birth certificate AND valid drivers’ license are required. the drivers’ licenses are almost always fake, but they simply don’t have birth certificates. Leave social security numbers out of the requirements because they are usually pilfered from their rightful owners. next let’s tackle diseases that we have long ago eradicated being brought by people who have never had any immunizations of any kind.

  2. In Missouri every undocumented Mexican that gives birth to a baby gets full Medicaid services. And they are giving birth to an average of 100+ a week. How do we stop this?
