After my class, I get to stop by my polling place and vote today.  One of the items to be voted on is an amendment to the already in place act protecting the sanctity of marriage.  At first glance, it didn’t appear to me that anything was being changed, but then I noted  not only was it re-solidifying the fact that marriage is between a man and a women, it also added the State of Alabama will not recognize “common-law” marriage between same sexes.

The two additions to the act we are voting are are:

(f) The State of Alabama shall not recognize as valid any common law marriage of parties of the same sex.

(g) A union replicating marriage of or between persons of the same sex in the State of Alabama or in any other jurisdiction shall be considered and treated in all respects as having no legal force or effect in this state and shall not be recognized by this state as a marriage or other union replicating marriage.

Of course we have to vote on various other things and people — but one good thing, the ads will be GONE FROM MY TV!  The one for the local coroner race is a awful — this guy belongs with the dead.
