Season Finale
I am going to do both hours in one post … so it’s going to be long. There is a lot that went on in these two hours but the main points will be here. Thank you Kiefer and the rest of the crew for another great, nail-biting season!
5 am to 6 am
Outside the Russian sub, Jack waits on Chloe to let them know about any entry points. Jack sees a distress beacon deployed on one side of the sub and Chloe dives in to find the frequency. There is one seaman on board and after his little discussion with Jack he may wish he’d gone to work at the local Burger King. Jack instructs him on what is going on and how they need to get to the control room. There is one terrorist in the way and Jack schools Petty Officer Roony on the way to kill the one guy guarding the way to the control room. After Roony takes out the guard, Jack has him move to the other side of the control room and distract Bierko and his goons. After a bit of throat swallowing, Roony does what is needed of him and then goes to the other side of the sub’s control room and makes some noise. Inside the control room, the count down has begun and Bierko has his targets – “To make the US pay for their association with Russia,” or some terrorist gobbledie-gook they use as an excuse to kill people. Roony gets Bierko and three of his goons out of the control room, Jack takes out the last guy setting the GPS on the missiles, and then Henderson starts to work on deactivating them. When the all clear is giving and Bierko is dead by a Baur bullet, Henderson has flown the coop. Jack cuts com with CTU and heads out to the top of the sub to find him. Once up there, Henderson holds Jack at gun point, with a gun he gave Henderson, but alas, the student out smarted the teacher and Henderson’s gun has no ammo. He asks Jack if he was ever going to let him go. “No, you killed people I cared about.” With that, Jack plugs a couple rounds into Henderson and Robo Cop bites the dust.
At the presidential compound, Martha is trying to get Mike’s attention, but with the sub situation, it has been rough. Finally they get the all clear, Jack has saved the day again, Mike heads out to prepare a speech Logan will give at the airfield. Martha stops him and tells him enough to get him to follow her to the stables where we find Aaron waiting on them. Between the two of them, they explain what has been going on. Mike knows Aaron well enough to know he’s telling the truth, and in spite of everything, he knows Jack wouldn’t do this if he wasn’t sure. Mike agrees to get Mike off the compound. In the woods, they hide the body of the Agent Martha had to take out and Mike receives a call from Jack. Jack is enroute to the compound and wants to meet up with Aaron. On speaker, Jack tells Mike and Aaron he’s going to make the president confess, one way or another. But there is a time limit (isn’t there always), and Martha is called to the plate to stall the president. And just what would a loving wife do to distract the most powerful man on the planet? The sheets darling, the sheets.
Chloe brings in her ex-husband, Morris, (I remember this guy from Nikita) to help her boost a transmitter Jack is going to need. She gets permission from Bill by saying she needs him to help with the tape – which she tells her ex is fried. He gets to work on what she needs, but boy is this guy a flirt.
Karen is summoned to Washington for debriefing, and Bill is sure that people are going to have to go down and that after she is gone, he’ll be next. I think this two are sweet on each other.
Jack and Aaron sneak into the agent locker room at the compound and Jack finds an extra flight suit. Marine 1 is waiting for the President to go to the airport to see President Palmer’s casket off. However, Mr. Pres is occupied with his wife. One of the pilots goes to the locker room after getting told his “packet” is messed up. Something to do with HR I’m sure, and the government does nothing without three-inch packets on you.
Aaron asks Jack, “How far are you willing to go to get what you need from Logan.”
Jack says, “As far as I have to.”
6 am to 7 am
After Martha is done distracting Logan, he heads out to leave for the airport. In the mean time, Aaron has made sure Jack looks like a good duplicate of the pilot and Jack takes his place on the helicopter. Logan enters the helicopter and the pilots start the engine. Jack is clearly tense after seeing Logan.
Martha accompanies Logan to the helicopter and Mike tells her to find a way not to be on the chopper. She tells Logan it would look more wonderful for her to come out of the chopper by himself, especially after he “saved the world,” today. Airborne, Jack takes controls and tells the pilot he’ll kill him if he doesn’t cooperate. Jack uses a stun gun on the two Agents with Logan then handcuffs him. He takes off his flight helmet and Logan is stunned.
Jack tells the pilot here to go after getting information from Chloe. Chloe then sends out her ex-husband, Morris, to meet Jack with the transmitter. Jack takes Logan into the warehouse, where Logan waffles from peeing his pants to being defiant. Jack is surprisingly calm throughout all this. Something’s a foot Watson! He removes everything Logan has in his pockets and then starts demanding he talks. But he really doesn’t put a lot of “umpf” into it really and shortly the Marines show up and take Jack into custody.
The president continues his flight to the airfield, where Martha and Mike are waiting, clearly not expecting this. Mike tells Martha Jack was caught. As Palmer’s casket is put on a stage, Martha cracks and starts screaming at Logan that he’s not fit to be president, calling him a murderer. Logan tells on lookers she’s not feeling well and gets her dragged into a hanger. There, he smacks her good and hard then starts feeling her up for a transmitter. He asks her why she delayed him so Jack could get on the chopper and she replies, “For the good of the country.” They continue their little fight, Logan clearly feeling his oats after having gotten laid by Martha and freed from Jack’s clutches.
Ah, but back at CTU, Chloe has called up the Attorney General. Karen and Bill are stunned but Chloe stands her ground. She explains that the President was wired, not Martha. When the Attorney General comes on the line, she plays back the recording of Logan’s conversation with Martha in the hanger. At the airfield, Logan is giving a sugar speech about President Palmer and the Secret Service get a call. Logan sees them shuffling around closer to him, which could indicate a threat to him, but he knows that’s not it. Hey let him finish his false speech and then take him to the side where a US Marshall is waiting. One of the Agent explains about the pen, and shows it to him, and then takes him to the Limo.
In the warehouse, Audrey arrives to find Jack being bandaged up by EMTs. She asks how much time he has and he tells her they can debrief him tomorrow. Someone comes up and tells Jack that Kim (gag) is on the phone in the warehouse and he tells Audrey he will be right back. Once in the warehouse, Jack is jumped and gagged. Audrey waits outside.
Jack is beaten and dragged to a dark room with the obligatory lights over chains with two dudes standing just in the shadows. He’s clearly been beaten and tortured, and ah uh! I know it – the Chinese. They tell Jack they have long memories and they are not going to kill him because he’s more valuable alive. The camera pulls back and you see a freightliner boat on the water, probably heading to China no doubt, and the boat Jack is being held captive on.
Back at the warehouse, Audrey realizes Jack is missing and starts screaming.
See you next season!

For the entire season I have been asking “Yeah, but when are the Chinese going to catch on that Jack’s alive?!?”. The second he was grabbed I muttered “Hey…even money says that’s the Chinese.” YES! woo-hoo. So now Logan’s self-assured “Bauer will be taken care of” makes more sense.
Overall a great wrap up to what I think was actually the strongest season of the show yet.

Yes, I agree. Thinking back to Logan’s little smile while being driving away from the airport, that was him knowing Jack was going to be “taken care” of. But I’ve been saying for weeks to people that Martha was the one that was going to take Logan down — and I was right.

Hey, thanks for the recaps! I was switching back and forth between this, Alias, and the basketball game, so I didn’t catch everything that happened. Reading your post really helped fill in the blanks. At any rate, I’m looking forward to next season’s action taking place outside of LA!!

I’m not much of a TV watcher but since the fiance is working I’ll probably watch this final “Idol” tonight. That show 24 was good but I never had time for it. One of my frat bros was really really into it.
I haven’t blogged in forever but finally got around to it.
