I've heard that one, but unfortunately it's already been shot down. If we "normalize" them, they're going to be PAID SS benefits, so the problem isn't solved (and in fact might get worse).

Social Security needs a lot more to save it than a few more people paying in.

Just had a thought.

If we DON'T normalize the 11 million Mexicans - and make them pay their taxes like everyone else - then what's to stop Social Security from breaking down in another ten years? We ARE running out of money, after all - what we need is more citizens to pay into it... God knows nobody in Congress want to TOUCH Social Security reform with a ten-foot pole, so there's one problem solved.

Have to agree with both Jo and Trelaina here. Overreaction is in many ways as big a threat as no reaction at all, and playing into the other side's hand isn't the correct response to a problem. Electing Democrats simply because the Republicans can't get their heads together on immigration is downright puerile, particularly considering that a Democratic administration could, and likely would, make the problems infinitely worse. Don't think for a minute the Democrats would turn away from amnesty - they'd likely botch the job even worse by granting immediate citizenship. No, the answer is to work from within and keep the pressure on until the GOP figures out that its constituency isn't pleased by its response. The ship turns slowly, but it does turn.

All those millions upon millions of legal and illegal immigrants that the current GOP leadership supports bringing here will certainly have an impact on your taxes.

Here's an idea: send a message in 2006 and hope that the GOP reforms before 2008.

These idiots that want to put democrats in the Whitehouse to "show the GOP" are in for a rude awakening -- I personally don't want my taxes raised, the war in Iraq to finish before it "is" done, and I don't want two years of impeachment hearings going on, and lastely -- I don't want Hillary Clinton in the Whitehouse in '08. If you think our country stinks now .. just you wait. Vote libs in as a way to "show" 'em ... then shut your mouths when the country goes down the drain.
