“24″ Day 5: 12am-1am

Jack

The president is a traiter and it’s up to Jack to take him down.  First he has to get Wayne Palmer to a safe place, so he hands him off to Bill. How did Bill get out of CTU? I thought Miles had enough on him with Audrey’s statement to place him under arrest?  Anyway, Bill asks Jack what his plans are and he tell shim about meeting SecDef Heller and passing on the information.

Meeting with SecDef Hellar gets him tied up for his troubles.  He arrives at the airport as Audrey is telling her dad that she needs to give him some information.  Heller is not happy to see Jack but he listens to the tape.  He agrees to go talk to Logan and tells Audrey and Jack to stay put.  BUT – he returns with one of his agents and puts Jack in handcuffs.  Heller is a patriot – is disturbed about how Jack has handled that situation.  He’s going to use the information to ask Logan to resign instead of broadcasting it nationwide.  Heller believes the office of the presidency has to remain strong, and bringing down Logan would not only destroy him, but the office.  Now Heller leaves Jack and Audrey with one of his agents, along with the tape.  Can we wonder why he didn’t go into the plane and make a copy?

Back at CTU, Karen and Miles with help from Sherry set Chloe up and find out she did help Audrey escape.  Miles, all slime and goo, locks Chloe up but is so dumb he doesn’t figure out she gets his keycard from him.  Ah, the keycard again.  Chloe slips out of the room after Miles leaves, gets a lap top and starts heading of the building.  Sherry sees her and Chloe reminds her that she helped her with Miles earlier, even though she knows Sherry is a liar about Miles and the sexual harassment situation.  Sherry backs down and Chloe leaves.  Karen fills in Logan about Chloe and Audrey and Logan tells her that Bauer is their top priority over anything else.  Karen really gets this odd look on her face. Remember she’s not really comfortable with Home Land taking over CTU and getting rid of everyone.  She doesn’t look happy about pulling her people off trying to find Henderson to hunt for Jack.  She splits their work between finding Jack and Henderson.

Karen calls Mike Novick and expresses her concerns to him.  I really believe that Karen is going to end up coming around to Jack’s way of thinking.  Fingers are crossed.  Mike goes to Garnder and tells him about the phone call from Karen and her concerns.  The VP doesn’t know what Logan is up too, but says he has to have a good reason for it.   Mike calls a General he knows to find out how close they are to locating Jack and the general has no clue what he’s talking about.  Mike then heads to talk to Logan. Logan tells Mike he’s using a covert ops team to find Jack — ie: Henderson’s goons.  Mike is clearly upset about this situation, but is a good spineless aide and backs down to Logan’s tongue lashing.  If he says one more time I’m the Preisdent, I think I’m going to puke.

Martha comes to get Logan to get some rest.  He tells her he will probably be up all night, but will join her soon.  As she leaves the room, she overhears the phone call from Heller to the president that he needs to see him. Martha asks him why the SecDef wants to see him so late, and Logan says Heller is concerned about the martial law situation.  Martha doesn’t really look like she believes him, but leaves anyway.  Logan calls Henderson to check on his status, and finds out they are ready to head for the airport where Heller’s plane is.

Martha talks to Aaron and asks why Heller is there and he asks her to meet him outside the stables area.  I don’t know what Aaron knows other than Jack has a warrant out for him, again, but I’m sure he’s put it together that Jack went to Audrey’s father with something involving the president.

Back at the airport, Jack uses the heating from a pipe to melt the flexi cuffs off him and cuts Audrey’s off her.  He knocks out the agent when he returns and gets the tape back.  Jack goes outside the hanger and meets up with one of Heller’s agents and disarms him.  Then Henderson and his goons show up in the helicopter and a gun fight ensues.  The agent is shot, but Jack takes out a few of the goons before Henderson flees into the hanger – yes where Audrey still is.

Heller meets with Logan and tells him what he knows and that to fix the situation, he will resign as President and he wants Gardner there when he does it.  He must do this before the morning news shows, or he will take the tape and use it’s information to bring him down.

Henderson holds Audrey hostage and demands Jack turn over the evidence.  Henderson cuts one of Audrey’s main arteries and sends her out as a trade and Jack slides the tape of the evidence to Henderson.   Henderson flees the building while Jack takes some wire and makes a tourniquet for Audrey’s arm.  Henderson calls Logan and tells him he has the evidence just ask Heller hands him a statement of his resignation.  Gardner walks in and asks what is going on and Logan tells him that Heller is there to resign.  Heller realizes that the phone call Logan got turned the tables on the situations.  He yells at him that his daughter better not be hurt.  Gardner looks stunned.

Martha does go out to meet Aaron and when he doesn’t show up she pulls out her cellphone and calls him. His phone rings from the ground a few feet away from her.  He’s gone.

Jack is an idiot for taking the tape back from the guard in the first place while leaving Audrey alone. How did he not see that coming? He should have left it with the guard, who didn’t have a loved one on sight to use as leverage.
