Ah, the real reason comes out.

We’ve all heard in the news this week about the man in Afghanistan who has confessed to being a Christian and the ourtrage from the Muslim leadership.

From Fox News:

KABUL, Afghanistan  — Senior Muslim clerics said Thursday that an Afghan man who converted from Islam to Christianity must be executed and if the government caves into Western pressure and frees him they will incite people to “pull him into pieces.”

The trial of Abdul Rahman has fired passions in this conservative Muslim nation and highlighted a conflict of values between Afghanistan and its Western backers.

“Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die,” said cleric Abdul Raoulf, who is considered a moderate and was jailed three times for opposing the Taliban before the hardline regime was ousted in 2001.

But if you are like most people that read the online news, or only hear dribs and drabs on the radio or tv, you may have missed this point from the article above – emphasis is mine:

Said Mirhossain Nasri, the top cleric at Hossainia Mosque, one of the largest Shiite places of worship in Kabul, said Rahman must not be allowed to leave the country.

“If he is allowed to live in the West then others will claim to be Christian so they can too,” he said. “We must set an example. … He must be hanged.”

That’s the main problem folks.  It doesn’t have anything to do with religion, they don’t want their people running of to the (gasp) West!  Remember the “West”, ie: America, was the country along with allies that loosed this country from Taliban rule.   Yet, they don’t want their people “infected” with the West’s beliefs, ie: Christianity.

Why are they so afraid of this?

Lose people, lose control, become a nothing.

Or worse yet — the Afghan people might just figure out that the twisted islamic religion isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Hey, it’s just a thought.

Oh, that is just classic. Democratic rule with religious oversight. Wonderful!

Thanks for sharing. I figured there had to be somethig behind the double-talk out of Afghan leaders (Islam is tollerant, so we’ll let you go if you convert back…

THey’re really stuck now — the latest news says he’s going to be released. However, they absolutely cannot permit him to live in-country, because he might “infect” others with Christianity. But they can’t let him leave the country, either, for the reasons you mentioned.

I wonder if he will have an “accident” when he leaves prison.
