The doctor says if I don't start EATING like a diabetic (and I went to a dietician to learn how)--then eventually my pancreas will shut down...and then I'll need insulin. I crave sugar terribly and it's a daily struggle not to eat too much bread, carbohydrates, sugary foods and chocolate bars. I have a type 1 child who use to be on Lantus but is pumping now, when you lost your weight were you already in DKA. I went through this with my son 5 years ago we had no idea what was wrong with his he lost a lot of weight within a weeks time. His bloodsugars at the hospitol were 985 and in DKA.
