Disrespect

Wednesday, 1 February 2006, 6:30

My mother, for all she isn’t in the mother department, taught us respect. Respect for our elders, respect for each other, respect for the earth, etc. On top of that, grandmother pounded manners into our head, body, arms … you get the point. They both said that sometimes in certain instances you simply have to smile at the other person and not embarrass them … no matter how hard you want to … out of respect for their title, age, etc.

Last night I saw none of that out of the loony left.

What I saw was out and out blatant disrespect.

They disrespected the Office of the President of the United States.

They disrespected The President of the United States.

They disrespected the American People.

But most of all, they disrespected themselves. This was a situation, the State of the Union speech for God’s sake, when they should have simply smiled, clapped and moved on from there.

Are these really the people that the MSM claims the “majority” of this country wants in power? No — that’s another post/rant.

These people do not disrespect the office of president, they do disrespect the man currently holding that office. It has long been said that respect must be earned, and our current president has done little to earn it. I didn’t see them disrespecting the American people, but rather showing the disapproval and dissatisfaction which many American feel with the current administration.

Yes, this was an occasion which called for couresty, but there are many in this country, including the Democrats present at last night’s address, who feel that the time for smiling, nodding and applauding meekly is past, and that it is time to act on their opinions-to which this administration is, obviously, not listening.

    My feelings exactly.

“…but rather showing the disapproval and dissatisfaction which many American feel with the current administration.”

The only people that feel this way are the loony left. But to show disrespect like they did last night tells me that their opinions are not worth listening to.

I’m not a member of your “looney left.” I am a long-time independent, who has looked at the opinions and records of each candidate and voted either Republican, Democrat or Independent-as I determined who I felt was the right person for the job. However, this administration long ago lost any admiration I had for them. And I was extremely proud of how President Bush handled the country immediately following 9/11. Since then, however, he has gone so far afield and has taken so many liberties that I no longer have any faith or respect in him or in the Republicans who blindly follow and support him.

I don’t know what liberties you’ve had taken away by the President — but I haven’t lost any. I don’t blindly follow him either. I do not care for the way he handles the border for one thing.

So… then…. if we did what they did to, say, Bill Clinton, Democrats wouldn’t have cried “They’re disrespecting the very office of the presidency!”? Of course they would.

You cannot diss the Pres and not hte office. This man HOLDS this office. He is doing nothing worthy of being disrespected. Liberals just hate that a decent, honest, moral man won back to back elections. That burns you guys up. Too bad. We suffered under 8 years of Clinton and Republicans dealt with it.

” has taken so many liberties that I no longer have any faith or respect in him or in the Republicans who blindly follow and support him.”

Please, list a few of these “liberties” that you no longer have. Please. I’ll check back later to see which ones he’s taken.

Last I checked, all my liberties were properly in place, thank you

The left proclaims it as another of the fine list of KnownFacts….but it’s nothing of the kind.

I think you guys have taken my “taking liberties” statement a tad too literally. I did not mean that Bush had taken liberties from me, personally-at least not yet! I meant that he had taken liberties with his office that he should not be taken. He used the power he “thought” he had to nominate, as Supreme Court Justice, a woman who had not one day of experience on the bench. Luckily, even the Republicans questioned that one.

He has used his office to authorize wire taps without legal authorization, which, by the way, could take away my liberties, and which has most definitely taken liberties away from some American citizens already.

He took away the right of the citizens to know why they are going to war, by providing us with false and misleading information.

He is seeking to take away a basic fundamental right from some citizens by taking away their right to marry the person of their choice.

I have heard recently that the military, of which he is Commander-in-Chief, has broken the contracts which members had, by forcing them to remain even after their terms of service have expired.

These are only a few of the things which have been happening.

    Amy,

You CAN diss the man and not his office. I can greatly respect the office of President, but not like or respect the man who holds it at any given time. As I believe many people did with Bill Clinton and others who have held the office.

If I love my country, it is not only my right, but my duty, to question how it is being run.

You are right on with this post Jo. I was embarassed for them when I watched the SOTU. They come across as bitter and hate-filled. They also come across as though they are putting their own self-interest above what is best for the country.

To gaj – the argument you are making is the same tired argument that uber-libs have been making since Bush won office. Vaguaries. Nothing concrete. Anything he does is wrong.

If he weren’t being proactive in dealing with terrorist, he’d be critized for that. He was blamed for 9/11 – remember. Eventhough the previous administration had 8 years to deal with terrorism and had either ignored or weakly responded to previous terrorists attacks, emboldening our enemies.

I’m grateful we have a strong leader. I don’t agree with everything he does. I would prefer more military rather than less. I think he’s pandered to the left too much by trying to bring the left back into the fold (they obviously don’t want to work together – so that’s a wasted effort.

But all in all – he’s the right man at the right time. We need leadership and strength right now. Not someone who uses charm, smoke and mirrors to be popular.

I think there was probably no reason to give this woman the attention she got as a result of the eviction. Whether or not her behavior was worthy of that eviction is debatable but what is appallingly obvious is that the press is giving her exactly what she wanted…

To wit: Cindy Sheehan is now the story…

  12. 12Jo

Gaj, you have your opinions, obviously liberal leaning in nature, and I have mine.

Isn’t it a great country we live in where we still have the freedoms to do that?

  13. 13gaj

    Jo,

You are right, and I am grateful that both sides have the right to speak their minds!
