…and is willing to prove it even if he has to go to the front lines. Seems the unit Prince Harry (son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana) has chosen to join after his military training is scheduled to go to Iraq:
“There’s no way I’m going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country.
“That may sound very patriotic, but it’s true. It’s not the way anyone should really work.”
Okay, the kid has done some really, really stupid things over the last few years. But you know what? He was (is) a sheltered rich kid who lost his only true link to reality (ie Diana) way too long ago and way too early. He currently lives in the shadow of his father and brother, one or both of whom will likely be King one day while he might, maybe be Duke of something.
This to me says that he is growing up and making something good of his life. If done well, it will surely make up for the irresponsible actions of a young man in his irresponsible years. A good many of us could look at our own teenage/young adult years and see some parallels.
I wish him well.

Amen! I know I have done some things in my youth that I am none too proud of. Good for him.

Patriotic!! How dare he!
Good post, well said and Lord knows we all do stupid things at 15 or 16. Wouldn’t want what I did at that age held against me now.
It sounds like he has grown up and will follow through.
I’m confused though … I read this over on the Daily KOS:
“…The military that is composed of a bunch of our best and birghtest who had the bad luck to be born on the wrong side of the tracks and believed the bullshit ad campaigns that told them the Army was their way out of the ghetto.”
I had no idea the British Royal Family were from the wrong side of the tracks! Geezzz

We at my office were talking about this young man. What a life he has lived and what a statement of committment he has projected. Our hats are off to him. He will turn the past around and make it a future blessing. Bless him.
