Arlen Specter has criticized the trial of Saddam Hussein … well I’ll be, isn’t that special?!
(12/27/05 — BAGHDAD, IRAQ) - Senator Arlen Specter says he’s disappointed with an Iraqi court for allowing Saddam Hussein to “dominate” his trial. The Pennsylvania Republican is visiting Iraq today, and says he has met with the judge overseeing the trial of the former Iraqi leader.
Specter says the evidence against Saddam should be presented “in a systematic way,” rather than letting a vocal Saddam control the proceedings.
And he says it’s important to show the significance of taking out Saddam — a man he says has “butchered his own people.”
Specter also is commenting on the recently announced drawdown of U.S. troops in Iraq. He says reductions have been in the works since April, and more are on the way.
Well Mr. Specter, last time I checked, this is an Iraqi trial, with an Iraqi Judge, based on Iraqi law. Has nothing to do with US trials or laws — but their own. Isn’t that the point of democracy? Setting your own rules? How this Judge handles his court is HIS BUSINESS, not yours. No, we may agree on the fact that this trial seems more like the side-show Hussein, but that’s their business. Let them walk on their on two feet and make their on mistakes, if they are. The trial has just started and you’re going to stand up and complain about it? When did the Judge ask for your opinion?
I think there is enough mess going on in this country with the liberal ass courts making decisions that are stupid and out of line for the benefit of the citizens here to be worried about. Keep your nose out of theirs until you clean up the judicial mess here.

Ugh. Specter’s ego prevents him from understanding that no one cares what his opinion is on these matters. it’s bad enough that he has to muck things up by involving himself in matters that do not require him here in the US. He would do well to shut up and let the Iraqis do their thing.
Besides, I kind of like that Saddam has been reduced to being little more than a bearded nutjob prone to tourette’s-like outbursts in court. He’s only slightly different from some of the muttering crazies I used to see walking the streets of NYC, talking to themselves.
