Bubba & The Vet

by Jo | December 8th, 2005

Had to take Bubba into the vet yesterday for his yearly exam. Okay — this dog still acts like a two year old puppy. It hit me yesterday that he wasn’t a puppy anymore when the vet says, “we need to start him on Senior Plus and schedule him a geriatric exam.”

What?

He’s only 7 … well that is 41 in dog years.

Oh, and not only does he need senior dog food, we have to brush his teeth.

Okay — stop laughing, it’s not funny — well it is trying to do it. I had actually picked up some dog toothpaste and a brush the other day because Bubba’s breath is awful. Since he is missing half his jaw due to his cancer treatment, the top teeth don’t get cleaned off with the food or bones. Yuck mouth is his nickname around here.

It is so fun to sit there and try and pry this dog’s mouth open and then keep it open while you attempt to “circle motion” clean the teeth. At least he likes the taste of the toothpaste.

So, Bubba got his shots and a clean bill of health and a bag of Senior Plus from Eukanuba.

But it was a good day.

  1. Jo… I brush all of my dogs’ teeth. Have done so since they were puppies. It’s fun, isn’t it?

BTW.. we just had a litter of 10 goldens. Hop over to Two Babes and take a look..I posted a picture.

  2. Reference the above discussion on dog years, you may find the following of interest:

I’ve recently developed a “dog years” to “human years” converter.

However, in addition to doing conversions, it lists and explains the major factors that determine the length and health of a dog’s life.

I also provide similar information and conversion for “cat years” as well, in case this is of interest to you.

If you would like to have a look, the dog converter is at:

and the cat converter is at:

If you have any comments or suggestions for either (they have just been published last week), please feel free to use the contact information on my site to send them to me.

    Regards,
    Doug
