Photog Charged Over Witherspoon Incident

A photographer was charged with child endangerment and battery for allegedly striking a 5-year-old child with his camera and shoving another out of the way to take pictures of Reese Witherspoon and her children.

Todd K. Wallace, 44, was charged Friday and was due back in court Wednesday, Assistant City Attorney Patrick Ahle said.

The photographer also is charged with battering the 5-year-old’s mother, who is a friend of Witherspoon, and two employees at a Disney theme park, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Wallace became angry when the “Legally Blonde” star and her friends declined to be photographed Sept. 2 at Disney’s California Adventure and cursed them, Martinez said. Wallace was initially cited for misdemeanor assault and battery of the two employees.

The incident left some of the children in tears.

Tabloids must realize that “battering and endangering a child to get a picture for their magazines is criminal and not business as usual,” said Witherspoon’s attorney, Blair Berk.

I realize these people have a job - taking pictures well is a good living for a lot of people, but to go as far to hurt an innocent child just to make a buck is outrageous. This person is slime in my opinion. So what if she didn’t want to have her picture taken? That doesn’t call for assaulting a child. I hope if this asshole doesn’t get a serious jail sentence, he gets a fine so hefty it puts him in the poor house.

  1. Wow. I agree, he should get a good strong sentence. These people have to learn to temper their enthusiasm. It was just this sort of thing that has led celebrities to do stupid things in an attempt to get away. It may have even cost Princess Diana her life.

  2. Un-believable!!!

Nasty photogs. Let’s hope he gets slapped with enough stuff that not only he, but other photo stalkers out there, learn a lesson.

To knock a kid out of the way. Asshole.

  3. Where is Sean Penn when you need him to slug photographers?

I don’t miss Anaheim. The town is very phoney and plastic. I still remember the day when an air tank was being tested for the new city hall annex. It blew up. The lawyers, business cards in hand, beat the ambulances to the blast site.
