Diabetes and Me
The Diabetes is winning.
I am losing.
For now.
I have a doctor’s appointment on Thursday.
I’m maxed out on my current meds.
The next step …. insulin.
I’ll let you know what happens.

Jo,
I maxed out on meds and had to go on insulin. It was very scary at first, but it doesn’t mean that you did anything wrong or that you are somehow sicker–things that concerned me when I had to make the transition. I am in better control on insulin, but it does mean a change. It turns out that I was misdiagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic. I was lucky enough to be able to get some results from meds for 5 years, but then I had to go to insulin–I was really an adult onset type 1 (LADA or Type 1.5) diabetic. Good luck.

If it is any help, my sister was 19 and pregnant and at the navy base in Bremerton back in 1968 (my brother-in-law was about to sweep mines in the Mekong). She kept feeling faint and the doctors couldn’t figure it out. An internist accidentally discovered that she felt better when she drank a pop. Bingo! Diabetes. Insulin ever since.
It ain’t the end of the world, but it sucks

I’m thinking we are looking at me going on Lantus right now; which is a one shot a day, low dose basal insulin. Gawd, I don’t know what is going on that’s for sure — I was 283 this morning …

Jo,
I’ll pray that this is temporary. My usual doctor refused to treat me for diabetes because I wasn’t in control. Yeah, right while I’m stressed to the max while going through a divorce.
I’m divorced now with a new girlfriend. The doctor I’m referred to has stopped my Glucontrol XL completely and while I’m still on Metformin and Actos, my blood sugars are usually in 100 to 118 range now.
If I could exercise regularly, I think I’d be lower yet, but 2 job don’t allow this. The workload is HE-double toothpick on my legs and feet.
Pray you are feeling better soon.

Wow. Sorry to hear that, but utterly amazed that we have discovered the knowledge to completely treat you and keep you going one way or another.
Best of luck at the doctor’s!
