I couldn’t think of anything else to title this — but you can bet your ass that the Anti-Christian Loosers Union will probably jump on this supposed “truth” to push their agenda.

Societies worse off ‘when they have God on their side’
By Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent

RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today.

According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems.

Which “God” are they talking about?

It [the study] compares the social peformance of relatively secular countries, such as Britain, with the US, where the majority believes in a creator rather than the theory of evolution. Many conservative evangelicals in the US consider Darwinism to be a social evil, believing that it inspires atheism and amorality.

I’m still in shock.

The paper, published in the Journal of Religion and Society, a US academic journal, reports: “Many Americans agree that their churchgoing nation is an exceptional, God-blessed, shining city on the hill that stands as an impressive example for an increasingly sceptical world.

“In general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy and abortion in the prosperous democracies.

“The United States is almost always the most dysfunctional of the developing democracies, sometimes spectacularly so.”

Hold it just a damn minute — this sounds like some cool-aid drinking liberal bullshit to me. And it sounds like the garbage that the muslim extremists use — and I have a shuddering feeling that Hitler used something like this to justify oven usage.

Read it … see what you think. It bothers me though — just gives me pause.

Preacherblog (HT: Cafe Oregano) tells us the truth behind the guy that did the study. It is as I feared. (Note Preacherblog doesn’t have trackbacks nor allows nonblogger users to post comments, so I can’t a) trackback or b) tell him that I linked to his site)

One Response to “Faith Bad, No Faith Good”

  1. Absolutely laughable. You have to wonder what type of religion the sociologists are dreaming of.

Digitus, Finger & Co has a good post about this as well…

And like I mentioned there, I’m reminded of this simple illustration that refutes that whole article:

If you’re walking down a dark alley and a group of young people approached you, would you feel better knowing they were just coming out of a bible study or out of a bar?

    Just wondering,
