Katrina Time Line

Tuesday, 6 September 2005, 7:29

Rick at Right Wing Nut House has a time line he’s put together of the response to Katrina. He states:

IT IS NOT MY INTENTION TO PLAY THE “BLAME GAME” BY PUBLISHING THIS TIMELINE.. In fact, if you have a link to a story that contradicts or adds to this timeline, I urge you to send it along. My sole purpose is to place this timeline on the record to dispel the rumors, the spin, and the outright falsehoods being flung about by both right and left bloggers and pundits.

(H/T: Decision ’08)

It’s a very interesting read. I considered “trying” to do this, but some people have more resources than I do.

Excellent Job Rick!

My husband’s best friend’s wife’s mom (the best friend BTW, is in the TXNG and part of the military presence in New Orleans), a long-time New Orleans resident, found safety and also found a computer to send her daughter a link to a 2001 editorital from the Times-Picayune about how the levee was going to break if something like Katrina ever occurred.

Of course, this article is now making the email rounds. Out of respect to my husband and his best friend (the wife I could care less about, you’d have to know her to understand) I graciously refrained from getting into a dialogue with her because you just can’t reason with the woman.

    Here’s the link: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&articleID=00060286-CB58-1315-8B5883414B7F0000

Anyway, my question is this: if it was THAT big of a deal, why didn’t the New Orleans residents make a bigger fuss over strengthening the levees?

Answer: It would have cost too much money at the time (and we all know how reactive society is, rather than proactive) and hindsight is always 20/20. Plus after 9/11, all people would have cared about was making sure the terrorists stayed out of the French Quarter.

This is great. However, it brings up a serious question.

If all of this is true, the screaming that “the feds didn’t react soon enough” is not true. Why the HELL isn’t the administration defending itself?

The timeline shows that mistakes were made on all sides, but it does not show, IMHO, a serious issue on the federal side.

    Or am I missing something???

I haven’t gone to read it just yet but I have been curious as to why the MSM, along with their quest to find someone to blame, are not blaming the asinine and idiotic animals that were shooting at the rescue helicopters and the rapists for not getting in there fast enough. Kinda makes you go, “hhmmmm”.
