I have to confess something — guys, don’t bother, this is girl stuff!

I am a make-up snob. Yup. A snob.

I can hear some of you now — “Oh please, I go a’natural — ” well, trust me on this, no matter how good your skin is — everyone needs a little assistance. God made women perfect in her image, but she also gave us brains enough to create adornment. Birds can’t do that, so God gave them pretty feathers and such. Us gals have to do it on our own.

Now there a few lucky gals out there that can just add a bit of mascara, a dab of lip gloss and fly out the door and never scare a child she comes up on.

Not me! Trust me on this folks — no make-up and children go running for cover behind their mother’s skirts!

I have worn make-up since I was 14 years old. (No, you’re not going to get XX years either — my age is my secret).

Make-up should be worn by everyone. Like I said above, even if it’s nothing more than a coat of mascara and a bit of lip gloss, we’ve all woke up some mornings, looked in the mirror and went UGH! HELP!

Now there are many different types of make-up out there, from liquid to powder. I currently use Bare Escentuals’. This make-up is not hard on your skin and goes on light as a feather. This type of make-up I would recommend to everyone, no matter the skin type, and especially for those younger gals coming into using make-up. And the best thing about it — you can’t, not won’t, can’t end up looking like this. This make-up just won’t let you.

I have gone through tons of make-up over the years. Gone from Maybelline, to Revlon, Clinique, Mojave Magic, you name it, I’ve probably tried it. But no matter what, this gal will keep trying to find the best products out there and the best way to apply it.

My tip on applying make-up: Get someone at one of them beauty counters to do your face for you once. Get an idea of HOW to put it on, and what colors look good on you. Also read magazines. Don’t to the latest style, no matter how good Jessica Simpson looks in whore-all-night-long blue, you won’t. And wear whatever you choose LIGHTLY!!!

What are your make-up tips or snobbery? Come on, I can take it!

  1. I’m pretty much a “don’t leave home without it” person myself. However, I am lazy/cheap about it — I just buy the Cover Girl stuff in the store for foundation, Avon for most of the other stuff.

It would be nice to find something that I could put on in the morning and have it still be there when I get home….

  2. That’s my biggest problem, oily skin and my make-up slides off by the end of the day. I’ve found with Bare Escentuals is I find it doesn’t slide as bad as the liquid foundations. But then again, using Proactive for skin care has helped a lot in that area too.

  3. Great Post! Can I share it with my gals?

  4. My wife looks good without it, but relys on it for self esteem. Is that healthy? I used to say it covers up natural beauty, but if it isn’t overdone it can enhance those features.

I’ve got good news up at my site Jo.

Jo, great minds think alike! I’m a makeup/perfume/products/all-around-cosmetics JUNKIE! Can’t buy enough of the stuff! I’ve got at least ten lipsticks just in my PURSE! LOL

Now, you MUST see Makeup Alley, where they have other cosmetics junkies/snobs like us doing product reviews. It’s one of my favorite sites ever! I’ve found some of my absolute must-have items from recommendations there!

  6. OMG! I shouldn’t have looked at that site during my lunch hour — damn damn damn !!! thanks!

  7. Glad I’m not alone. I like my husband to still think I’m all that and a bag of chips.

For oily skin, I finally found the foundation of my dreams. It’s Almay and it has the blemish control right in it… it’s fantastic. Put a little Almay pressed powder on overtop (with a brush) and you look like a model all day long. No kidding! No slidding, no zits, even model looking skin tone, it’s fantastic! I’ve been through it all including being a Mary Kay lady and I tell you this is it. Have to say though between Clinique and Avon, I’m fighting the wrinkles. I refuse to go down without a good fight. As long as I still get carded several times a year, at the grocery, I’m happy!

Any suggestions on the eye wrinkle fighting cream of the year would be greatly appreciated!
