Opelika Widow Mourns Soldier

Sergeant Christopher Taylor hugged and kissed his wife the day he left for Balad, Iraq. They were a happy couple, full of laughter and love. However, Janina sits with their son and daughter alone today. Her husband was killed by mortar rounds Sunday while leaving a bunker.

She was expecting him home next month.

“God has been helping me get through this a great deal. If it wasn’t for God, I don’t know how I’d be right now,” said Taylor.

She said her husband was completely devoted to his family.

“He was a great husband. I loved him to death, and I still do,” said Taylor. “He was the best father. Every child would’ve wanted a father like him. He always played with the kids. Especially his little son. He just loved to wrestle with him.”

A controversial pastor, Fred Phelps, is planning a protest at Taylor’s funeral. Phelps leads the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. He’s known for his strong anti-homosexual stance, but Taylor was not gay. Phelps said America is being taken over by homosexuals, and killing soldiers is how God is punishing the nation.
