Fort Benning Stuff

by Jo | June 13th, 2005

I decided to sit down and read through some the stories that the local Columbus Ledger Enquirer had about Fort Benning. I found a few recent stories and then did a deep archive search. I clicked on one story that I thought would be interesting and then came up a “you must register page”. I was like, well that’s no problem, so clicked on the register icon.

Wait — hold on a minute — the next page comes up and wants “me” to pay $2.95 for a single article? There is even a spot for my credit card and everything. And to top it all off .. the story was 2 days old!! The dang paper itself is only $1.50 on SUNDAY, why would I want to pay $2.95 for one frelling article online? Hey - I don’t get this rag delivered to my home because it’s so liberal it stinks, but I do read it online to keep up-to-date on Fort Benning happenings.

So — there goes any post around the news of Fort Benning from the Newspaper source. I won’t be linking to them anymore either.

So let me go somewhere else for what I’m looking for - Fort Benning’s own website. Stick that up your money grubbing nose L-E.

Soldier Awarded Silver Star

As day broke, June 3, 2004, in Kufa, Iraq, so too, did the misconception that the Mahdi militiamen were ragtag and disorganized.

Staff Sgt. Robert R. McBride and the Soldiers of Iron Troop, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment were about to find out this band of Islamist militants was well equipped and more prepared than the coalition forces had ever expected.

Tip-offs lead to people, weapons capture

Iraqi civilians are increasingly reporting terrorist acts against coalition forces, said Maj. Dean Wollan, intelligence officer for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Liberty.

Residents of the Diyala Province have provided the Iraqi and Coalition Forces with information resulting in the capture of high-valued targets, pinpoint locations of insurgent weapons and equipment, as well as locations of roadside bombs known as improvised explosive devices.

There is a positive momentum,” said Maj. Ed House, operations officer for 3rd BCT. “People are tired of getting blown up, tired of their kids not being safe going to school, tired of not having a functioning government, tired of not being able to live their lives.”

A good news out of Iraq — don’t hear that much from the MSM now do you?

Fallen Soldier Honored, Family Sees Ceremony

Sgt. 1st Class David Salie was the first 3rd Brigade soldier killed during this deployment. He died when a roadside bomb exploded near his humvee on Valentine’s Day. Three months later, his family got to see a Memorial Day dedication, live from Iraq at the WTVM studios.

Third Brigade Wife Gets House “MakeOver”

Two Fort Benning military wives got some huge surprises this past week. Their living rooms were “made-over” in a project called “Flipping Quarters”. Similar to the home makeover TV show “Trading Spaces,” the women had to leave their homes, and trust their friends to the make-over process.

That’s enough for now. Enjoy!
