AL Native Picked for ADA Advocate

SAN DIEGO, June 10, 2005 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — The American Diabetes Association (ADA), the nation’s largest and leading voluntary health organization in the fight against diabetes, today announced that Dana Lewis, 16, of Huntsville, Alabama, has been chosen as the Association’s 2005-2006 National Youth Advocate. The announcement was made at the organization’s 65th Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions, which is being held in San Diego. As the ADA’s National Youth Advocate, Dana, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 14, will spend a year serving as a spokesperson for the Association, meeting with policy makers, promoting increased funding for diabetes research and prevention, and reaching out to young people and adults to encourage them to become involved in the fight against diabetes.
