I don’t normally blog much about my dear hubby, but…
I’m some damn proud of him I could bust!
Last year at this time, I was planning a trip to El Paso, Texas to watch him graduate from the Sergeant Major’s Academy. No - he hadn’t been picked up for promotion, just school. This sucked big time because if you either a) live or b) been to El Paso, Texas, you know how badly that place sucks to high heaven. On top of that, he left the day after Christmas, right after I had started a new job. He was gone for six months, just across the otherside of the country. Trust me, dealing with the seperation of an ocean is much easier than a few states.
Anywhoo…
He graduated from school and came on back home. He farted around his old Battalion until the E9 list came out. He wasn’t on it. This threw up an outrage in many circles, not to include the family ones. I was crushed, he was mad, and then we got over it. We found out later, the number of people to be promoted had changed after the list had been put together, and the cut off was above hubby’s number.
So, he took over as the 1SG of HHC and we moved on with our lives. The board sits again in June this year. Fingers, toes and eyes are crossed, but we are very hopeful this time around.
When the board sits this time, there will be a note to the board saying that my hubby is currently in the position of sergeant major. See, the current Command Sergeant Major (CSM) has taken an assignment at another post to go to Iraq. Hubby is the ranking E8 in the Battalion and school trained. Yup -he’s moving up to the Sergeant Major’s office.
I’m so proud of him really - he may not have the rank, but the people around him and above him believe in him and his abilities to do the job. This will all occur in the next couple weeks, and our lives are going to change completely.
Now if the board will just act right this time, hopefully by Christmas, he’ll have the rank and/or pay … depends on his number.

Wow! That sounds very promising. Best of luck and blessings to you and your hubby on this upcoming change. And please thank him for his service - it means a whole lot to me.
