The Ugly Green Van

by Jo | May 18th, 2005

I went to a stationary specialty store the other day — it’s got great stuff I found out. Gal at work has been raving about it and gave us all on the team gifts from there when she came back from maternity leave, so I had to check it out.

When I got there, I parked in an empty spot, no one on either side of me.

I browse (and buy of course) and then get ready to leave. I wasn’t worried about lunch, since I’d brought mine that day.

But what do I see when I leave the shop and go into the parking lot?

Some IDIOT had parked their ugly green van next to my car. Not next to it, so dang close to it, getting in the driver side was impossible, and the end of their ugly green van crossed the white line into MY space.

I went to each store in the 4-plex shopping center and asked if anyone owned the ugly green van. No takers. I asked if anyone had seen who it was that parked there. No takers. As I stood there contiplating what the hell I was going to do, people would come out of the stores and say “Yup, sucks” or “You can get in the passenger side.” Sure I can — but backing it out was the problem. This ugly green van totally blocked any veiw I had to the left of me, so I had no idea if anyone was coming in the driveway at all.

Finally, this wonderful lady - Thank you God - pulled in the parking lot and saw me standing there. She asked what was the problem, and said the same thing, “You can get in through the passenger side.” I told her yes I could, but that I couldn’t see cars coming in the lot while I jiggered my car out of the spot. She said, “Well I can help with that.”

So while I got in the car and started working it out of the slot, around the ugly green van, she stood in the parking lot and stopped traffic for me.

I never got her name - but some day I will pass on to someone else what she did for me. I hope she found a hairdresser to fix the mess on her head though -that’s why she was there that day.

May god bless her 3 times over for helping me.

And may the guys that didn’t even bother to help me — May god bless them too
