Thanks for the post, Jo. Like you, I just want to welcome her to our community – despite it being something none of us wish would be necessary in the first place. Many have been welcoming, but there has been a lot of judgment and criticism. Some have took an issue with her continuing to promote unhealthy meals while probably changing her personal behavior behind the scenes. I suppose I see that, but again I’d rather be welcoming and encouraging and supportive to a “new” PWD.

I’m not a fan of the Patriot Act, regardless of who may have signed it. While there are aspects per se I think are important and necessary, it’s too broad a brush and I think does more harm than good in the context of privacy, security, and constitutional protections. With that said, I’m not sure I would say that the online monitoring falls into the same boat as phone tapping without a warrant. There’s no expectation of privacy online – you post it, assume the person you didn’t want to see it, will. I almost sign away my protections by posting it online for the world to see. Maybe I’m missing something here, though…

The NDAA only goes to further stifle our Constitutional Rights without the approval of the Americans, just as the Patriot Act was adopted WITHOUT public approval or vote just weeks after the events of 9/11. A mere 3 criminal charges of terrorism a year are attributed to this act, which is mainly used for no-knock raids leading to drug-related arrests without proper cause for search and seizure. The laws are simply a means to spy on our own citizens and to detain and torture dissidents without trial or a right to council. Learned that this is an update of 1987 regulations – nothing new, just updated…the story is not accurate…it doesn’t even specify which parts of the regulations were updated…I’m having trouble finding that out myself…it doesn’t look like much was actually added.
