Swine Flu & Golf

Tuesday, 28 April 2009, 6:49

I’m not the least bit scared of this swine flu strain that is coming out of  Mexico because I’ve never been to Mexico and never plan on going.   I made a comment on Twitter yesterday afternoon asking how a Muslim extremist would feel if he got the swine flu.  Haa haa .. sounded like sweet justice in my book.

Anyway….

Just what is this “flu” that is supposedly moving to a pandemic level?  According to the CDC,

Like all influenza viruses, swine flu viruses change constantly. Pigs can be infected by avian influenza and human influenza viruses as well as swine influenza viruses. When influenza viruses from different species infect pigs, the viruses can reassort (i.e. swap genes) and new viruses that are a mix of swine, human and/or avian influenza viruses can emerge. Over the years, different variations of swine flu viruses have emerged.

My mother was never one to stuff us with antibiotics every time we sneezed or ran a small fever.  To this day I do not want to take them unless absolutely necessary and then I tend to avoid completing the whole script.  Our immune systems have to learn to develop and get stronger.  If you dump antibiotics into you at the slightest sign of a cold instead of going to bed and working it through, your immune system will never get strong.

Is the swine flu, or any strain of flu, a sign that we are using too many drugs to take the place of what God gave us?  Who knows.  But people that rely on drugs instead of a natural immune system are doing themselves more damage.  Also, doctors have been saying for years that as each strain of illness progresses, it learns to bypass the drugs, causing the medical community to have to find strong meds.

Should we close the borders to Mexico because of the swine flu?  Hell, why start now – the government won’t protect us by closing them now to illegals, why bother with a little strain of the flu?

From all the experts I’ve heard today, this is the flu.  Treat it like one.  Wash your hands, sneeze into a Kleenex or your elbow, don’t go to work sick, and rest.  Mexico is a third world country.  Unfortunately, in the third world countries, people die due to lack of proper medical treatment or hygiene problems.  No person has died in the United States from this flu.  We do have the best medical system in the world and our hygeine is better than most of Mexico.

What really strikes is that President Obama, the supposed saviour of us all, went and played golf.

OMG – Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman would be having heart failure if GW had done that.  The same people that slammed Bush for not wading through the flooding water in New Orleans to snatch people from the jaws of death simply ignore the fact their Messiah went golfing.  I can hear them now, “The president is always in contact with what is going on in the world.”  They would be right of course – unless the President at the time is a republican.

People – chill the hell out.   Take precautions, cancel the vacation to Mexico and be smart.  We can get through this, and let Obama get back to playing golf and president.

OMG I was saying pretty much the exact same things to my husband this morning. People die from the regular flu every single day and we don’t hear about it. I’m right there with you on the mutant flu strands and antibiotics. The human body was made to fight infections and colds, let it at least try.

A little common sense (of course) in your daily activities and… if you are so inclined, maybe healthy doses of Vitamins C&D. That’s our plan.
