Liberty Just in Case has a post titled “A Diabetes Cure?” and naturally, being a diabetic I had to check it out.  The post points to an article about lap band surgery – gastric bypass without the major reconfiguration of the internal organs.

Lap band surgery has the surgeon putting a ‘band’ around the top portion of the stomach to create a smaller area for food to be deposited.  It is adjusted as needed, but the results are the same as gastric bypass.  Food supply is limited and therefore an overweight person’s caloric intake is reduce, causing weight loss.

For the overweight person who is also a Type 2 diabetic, this can in some cases reverse the disease. 

However, for someone like me who is not overweight, it would do nothing for me.

A cure? Not in the complete meaning of the word.  Once a diabetic, always a diabetic for the most part.

Its a nice thought though.
