Is Geraldine Right?

Wednesday, 12 March 2008, 6:16

It is being reported Geraldine Ferraro said:

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” Ferraro said during an assessment of Obama’s treatment by the press that she attributes to an infatuation with the racial implications of his candidacy.

“And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

My question to you is — is she right?

Would Obama be in the lead, and being voted for 9 to 1 in a lot of states, because of his platform or because he’s black?

I know people that are voting for him because he’s black.

I heard people say they are are voting for Hillary because she’s a woman.

You tell me.

    I believe so.

I’m sorry, you’re not allowed to ask that question. Seriously. No one cares whether she’s right or wrong. In today’s PC society, it honestly makes no difference. If the remark may be taken as racist, by anyone, at any time, you’re not allowed to say it — even if it’s factually correct.

    She is 50% right.

It’s not only his race, it’s his middle name and his origins. Remember, his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and his father was/is Muslim. That is also the reason he is in his position.

oops…I wasn’t supposed to say that in this PC world.

I hear people (liberals) claim to support him because he’s black. But, I think he would be in contention anyway. He rose quickly in Illinois politics with the help of an oldtime politician and the Chicago machine. He delivers a good speech. He’s fresh and has the attractive young family. He has the knack of convincing otherwise intelligent people that chanting and hoping will solve the problems of the world.

I don’t get it. As far as I can tell, he’s still an empty suit. But I don’t think he’s successful only due to his race.

    But, what do I know?!

Obama is where he is because the media refuses to question, or downplays questions to, his record. Or lack of record.

And the media are being easy on him because they’re afraid of being branded as racist.

And the racism scare is because Obama is Black.

So, yeah, he’s where he is because he’s Black.

I think the theory is basically sound. That’s not to say that everyone who is a Obama follower is because of race, but certainly there are some… if not a large number who are.

But more than this is the idea that in this country, one can point out something like this without fear of being labeled and libeled as a racist. In fact, Obama’s own campaign enjoys saying that those who DON’T endorse him are rednecky, bigotted Arcvhie Bunker types. It seems that it’s just okay for them to say this but if someone counters with the same logic, it is wrong.

It’s a shame that we have arrived here where the media endorses a candidate for President who so carelessly plays with the rights of the people.
