Diabetes in the News

Anyone that has been around my blog for any length of time knows that I’m not a fan of the Main Stream Media (MSM).
No matter what the topic, they get it wrong 99.9% of the time.
So you’ll not be surprised to note I’m not surprised that again … they got it wrong.
dLife CEO Responds to the NY Times
That clacking noise heard around the world yesterday was the sound of millions of people with diabetes putting their blood glucose monitors back on the shelf, relieved to know that the dogged pursuit of tight blood sugar control is no longer necessary.
That is, if you read the first paragraph of Thursday’s front page New York Times article on the recently halted arm of the ACCORD study: “For decades, researchers believed that if people with diabetes lowered their blood sugar to normal levels, they would no longer be at high risk of dying from heart disease. But a major federal study…found that lowering blood sugar actually increased their risk of death.”
This is an exceedingly dangerous takeaway. The bigger story here is what the presentation of this news, not the news itself, tells patients about managing their diabetes appropriately.

So once again the news media takes a small group study and twists the results to make it sound like all the hard work diabetics do to keep their sugar levels within prescribed normal ranges isn’t worth it. People … people … people … when are you going to learn that the likes of the New York Slimes doesn’t care about anything but $$$$ in their pocket? And if you believe everything out of the New York Slimes without researching on your own – you not only need to get your head out of the sugar pile, but add professional help to.

It’s just amazing how much misreporting has been done on this issue. I can’t imagine what it will do to people with type 2 diabetes. I’m also amazed at the number of spinoff articles where the fact that these folks have type 2 diabetes is not mentioned.

The best thing people can do, Type 1 and Type 2, is to talk to the doctor FIRST! God help them if they listen to the New York Slimes about anything.
